Took the ole square out for a spin today, since she's been mostly sitting since Moab. Instead of around the neighborhood, went up a sandy wash for a mile or so. On the way back crossing a deep narrow gully, couldn't get out in 2 wheel, lock hubs, select 4hi drive right out, no fuss no muss. Then this evening pizza fetching.

Haven't done anything with 77. Inspired by Larry's Stout 85k5 thread I ordered the efi tank I should have done back when I had fuel delivery issues. 40 gals, though I did not get a Spectra tank, is made in Twain seems well made and has the fuel pump well built in, box it arrived in was beat to sh%t but tank seems fine.
Need to find a fuel pump to work with my Q jet. I'll keep the current pressure reg with return. I didn't order the pick up and sender yet, figure i'd see what the suggestions are. I will be doing the floor door mod, want to keep it as smooth as possible for siding stuff on top. Fab something up, seal it up with butyl strips, and screw it down. I'll grab a pic of tank tomorrow.

Any chance you can take a pic of the fuel pump "sump"? Old news, but the sump in the spectra tank I got is near worthless due to its design, if I ever have to replace it, would be nice to know if there is another manufacturer out there that understands the need for a well-designed sump.

Thanks. It *looks* like the same non-effective design, unless you can ascertain there is some sort of one-way setup that isn't clear from the photos?

Frustrating if not, I don't feel it would be ridiculously hard or complex to come up with something effective to keep fuel in the sump.

I understand that isn't an issue for everyone, but it would be nice to have the choice.

This is not supposed to be sump, but a baffle so the fuel doesn't run away from the pump at every turn, but gives you a few seconds before all the fuel goes through the holes on one side.
It would be nice if the design incorporated a sump but the only way to do it is a deeper section where the pump resides.
I had that in an oil pan on my Perkins turbo diesel

That's the same setup my tank has. It's a "handy" low-fuel indicator that the engine bogs down on a corner or acceleration when there's only a gallon or two left. Some cars have a cup around the pump which has its own sock and check valve at the bottom. I thought of trying to retrofit one of those in (because it was sitting around), but these square body EFI tanks have a very small opening in the top. So my solution is make sure I have some gas before going wheeling. :dunno:

I suppose a longer tank makes the problem worse.

I was looking at it again today. only has 2 1/2" holes in the bottom. I am not so worried. Current set up with pump at lower right front outside of tank hasn't starved it for fuel. I did need to lower the pump after not being able to start engine on steep hill prob >8%, has been good ever since.

So no one has a recommendation for an in tank pump ? The Spectra TBI unit for this tank is rated at 15-33 psi. I need to check and see if regulator can handle 33 psi.

People have been using the EP381(??) Delco pump, but I'm kind of fed up with Delco stuff, not sure I'd go there now. That's me though.

Walbro pumps seem to get good marks.

Regulators don't seem to have any problems with the higher pressure of the non-tbi pumps. The far higher pressure/flow pumps are very commonly used with TBI now.
