Wife's 67 Power Wagon Build -Cage complete!

I managed to make your prediction come true....

Uhm......

No fair posting a build thread where the truck is already completely finished.

In the last two days, you found a basketcase.... brought it home, cleaned it up, pulled the body, did engine work, fixed up axles, and will probably have it in final paint by the end of this week.

It makes the rest of us look bad. REALLY bad.

;)

Really Wasn't out to fast track this thread but Sort of had some extra motivation from your joking comment.

Still some more interior and stereo info and pics to add.
Little woman likes her tunes!

really like the lines on that old truck! really turned out awesome. kudos to your wife for saving it. :)

quick question on the fender tubes: are those tied into anything, or are they more just dent protection? any other cage stuff?
Rear Fender tubes are going to be sleeved with an insert and matching tube, that bolts to the frame at the front and back of the fenders but still allows for easy removal if required.
Front fender tubes are just welded to newer heavier metal to reinforce them.

The interior cage is being done starting in Feb. too much customer work on my plate to be able to handle it until then.
Likely have some tube work extend through the cab to the box area too.

right on. I think you made the right call wrt the exo cage. the lines on that old beast are just too damn cool to cover up.

can't wait to see how you tie it all together.

Turbines.

another awesome build kellyjohn. I'd love to have your place and your epic fab skills. Subruban life sux bawls when you were raised on a farm. The turbine wheel are a nice touch were did you find them?

I bought the old turbines with a set of 35" Gumbo-Monster Mudders used for $700.00 way back when i redid it the 1st time (around 1986?)
The same tires and rims were on it when My wife found it and bought it back.
Who would have thought??

Exo.

Thanks!

I'll post when we get to that point.

Kelly still makes comments about how it should have had an exo.
The way we did it was a crapload more work, reshaping the fenders with a hammer and body iron, and welding then fiberglass and finally putty to make it look less obvious that tubes were welded in.

She get way more attention when we are out with both trucks, and I like it that way.
She deserves to take credit for her hard work just like the rest of us do.:waytogo:

Definitely agree. It looks SO much better without the exo cage!

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do for work? You mentioned that you are swamped with customers work...

I have my own welding and Custom Fab shop.
Casey's Welding- it's in the CK5 calendar
We do everything!
Plant is 23 000 sq ft. and I have 10 great guys working for me from 20yrs to 78yrs. haha.

Mostly industrial stuff but I can't avoid the 4x4 stuff!
It too much fun to do!

Wow, this a nice retro truck. Pure boxy and utilitarian - interior cab design and comfort was ALOT different then - something newer truck guys may never experience. I like the old school turbine rims - brings back memories of the 80's 4x4 era.:waytogo:

That explains a lot.

Keep it up!

Much appreciated complements!
As far as the build thread goes, there are some on the site that make me Drooool, and put my threads to shame.
The advantage on this one was that the pics were being loaded so frequently that there was little time for replies....:D

Glad ours seem to be among the ones Members like.

That's funny, I never thought of it like that....
Oddly enough all the Trades "up here" still favor Imperial over Metric.:dunno:
I'm fine with either one, grew up with both.
lol, there are a whole lot of "good ol' boys" who just spit beer all over their monitors hearing "Standard" referred to as "Imperial". :haha::haha:

Sorry for the holdup K85 Octane

I'll have pics of the new clutch going in soon.

Finally replacing the one I had to remove/repair and re install near Newspaper Rock, (on the side of the road) when we did our Moab run.:doah:

Love the integrated tube into the fenders and those front shock hoops are awesome man!

Finally had some time to do some clutch work.

Had a holdup due to the fact we were running a 13" external balance flywheel and clutch system, with the NV4500 trans.:doah:

It normally uses a large clutch and the large throwout bearing.

Had to machine the trani snout down to use the smaller diameter throwout bearing on the big tranni. with the small clutch to work with the pressure plate.
