If you do sand it just use a coarse grit sandpaper. It will remove the paint without providing enough polishing action to "shine" the aluminum. Just be a satin finish.

Well they are aluminum as opposed to the stock tin ones?

I am torn. I don't want polished, and I am not sure how to sand them down without making them shiny.
