Zimmer's Fatboy power tour. 6/1/15...Now touring NC

will check those Ray....the VOES switch is working, but I was reading where you could adjust the cut in vaccum signal for it to operate in the thread link you posted above...didn't know that existed.

Dave, I think I have a manifold if you need/want it, gotta check my rat's nest, err, garage...

haha, let me check out my engine first Ray...

I don't think my manifold has the tee to the head IIRC???/

does the chrome crossover tube on the rocker boxes, is that the manifold you talk of?

OK, no nevermind on that crossover tube, I was thinking crankcase breathing.

Let me take a look at it tomorrow.

Ray, my manifold bolts onto the heads...two bolts per head.
I've had the old clamp on type manifolds before on the Ironhead I had, but these seem to be pretty firmly attached, not able to move the manifold at all.

Also got talking about a CO meet and greet...I will be coming home from BB12 on Monday the 10th, and would like to meet some of the CO gang that cant' make it to BB12....anybody interested....I got to plan on seeing Lawrence in Ouray, and then maybe head to the CO springs area for the night...anyone want to get together in CO. Springs that night?

I really want to get a more powerful headlight in this thing before this roadtrip...what are some good options for not only distance but width of the beam too?

HID, Xenon, ????
Also keep in mind would it work with stock wiring or require something additional for optimum performance?

What kind of light setup is it?

Sealed beam or bulb in housing?

Been learning a bit about this lately. The Tracker had crappy lights and I just put some Sylvania Silver Star Ultra bulbs in the stock housings and the improvement was awesome. Far whiter and brighter with much more distance. Not getting any flashes or what not from other drivers.

The housing can have a lot to do with crappy lights too. Jeep uses 7" round housings with H13 bulbs on the new Wranglers and they're pretty universally regarded as crappy. Guys will actually pay $500 for a set of TruckLite LED lights as the improvement is so much better. Lots of reports that even the Silver Stars or some of the similar high performance bulbs don't make a huge difference. There's lots of replacement housings out there that get good or bad reviews ranging from $60 to $300 and a variety of bulb options. There's also headlight wiring upgrades similar to what is available for the old Chevy's.
I'm sure if you want more light others do. Any aftermarket Harley light fixes?

Its a sealed beam 7", and yes there are some conversion light kits out there, I just didn't know what type of lamp to shoot for. All I've ever had is the stock or Halogen type bulbs in any vehicle, so don't know what type of lighting would give me a wide and far reaching pattern. One thing I think about a lot is a deer running out in front of me from the side of the road....so width of beam would be a nice option to have.

Definitely put some thought and research into it. There's a ton of cheap stuff that just "makes more light". Doesn't aim it well, distribute it well, or project it well but by god does it make some bright white/blue/purple/pink/yellow/green/wtf ever light right up front. Think the crappy blue or white lights you see coming at you from the other side of the highway that make you cringe and look away.

If they were a decent setup you wouldn't do that even if they were a lot brighter.

Jessie James on here put some thought and research into it when working on his 91 K5 a few years ago. You want more, brighter light and it aimed well. One place where Europe is far ahead of the US in this respect.
Similarly you don't HAVE to spend hundreds and hundreds of bucks on it. If you've got a good reflector already just an uprated bulb might do you well.

If not then start looking at better reflector/housing, then better bulbs or HID's (with HID reflectors), then LED's or what not. Also consider upgraded wiring harnesses (how much juice is the light itself getting? HD do anything goofy with the wiring like Chevy did with the old trucks?) and maybe add on lights? I know in the Rally bike world the trend was/is a couple of KC lights or the like in addition to the headlight.

Lookin sharp Dave. Bags are necessary on a long trip, but the bike looks a lot better without them. :waytogo:

mostly, i agree, but i dunno if i've just got 'calloused' or what, but i don't like mine without the 'ol Ironbags any more.. but when i first put them on, it made the bike feel like a dump truck.

I like that bike man! How do you like the running light setup?
I think I"ll like my Hardstreet bags, way more than the soft bags I got now. they aren't really any bigger but they are water proof, and should maintain a better loek to them.
They make bigger bags, but I didn't like the look of them...too wide for my taste. I should be able to get started on the paint next week.

the lights are 'ok', but like you, i'd like to find something better. the spots are bright and if you have a car anywhere in front of you while they are on, they will flash their brights at you. it's also another motion go go through when meeting traffic...kill the spots, then dim the headlight. i also had to rewire them, as the factory spots were wired to come on only on 'dim', which made no sense to me becaust they are too bright to meet cars with.

Could you mount them lower Dave?
They look high... but I'm on my phone and the pic is kinda small.:dunno:

let me know what you think when you can see a fullsize pic....these are a little dark also...need to leave room down low on the fender for the turn signals too.

this is what I was shooting for:

looks like his bike is on a lift, so the swingarm is hanging low making them look higher than they are...

Your right Ray...missed that on my phone.:doah:
I should pay more attention.

On the black bike it looks like the bags are mounted about a inch and a half lower...by using the taillight for a reference. But I can see there isn`t any turn signals on the black bike ether,so that might not work out.

yeah, mine are actually slightly forward of those in the promotional pic, just to get the light on the lower part of the fender...I think they'll look good down low, and I'm going to see about making them a running light as well as a turn signal...right now they are only a turn.

kicking around a couple paint color combo's...

primary color of mango tango pearl, but wanted a champagne/beige pearl/metallic type secondary, but can't quite find the right combo...any ideas?

here is a Dodge Challenger 2011 mango tango pearl:
