1968 C10 DD, project "New Tricks"

Anyone know if the core supports are all the same for the 67-72 Chevys? I'm sure the GMCs are different.

The 67-68 are the same. 69-72 are the same, but that is how they split between years/grills.

To add to that, with Irish1941's help.

Main difference is the headlight buckets. The earlier 67-68 are bolted on. The later trucks are tack welded and stick out farther. Here's some pictures. Earlier is on the left.

Sorry for not being more specific, but that is correct. And don't try to take the headlight buckets off of the '69 and up core support to use on the older truck. It won't be correct! (Been there.)

Couple questions.

How do I get the ignition switch bezel off? I've got this socket that makes turning it easy, but all it does is spin. Can't seem to get it off :(

Second. I have my original tail light wiring harness that's in great shape. All lights worked before I pulled the truck apart. What's the best way to clean this without hurting it? It's super nasty, not sure soap/ SimpleGreen and elbow grease is going to cut it. :doah:

I have heard of people using warm water and dish soap to clean up a harness. It should just be some grease and road grime. Let it soak a bit then give a good scrub?

Well, my front clip is hiding in a vacant office where I work, out of the sun and rain. It's got primer on the outside and finished painted (base/clear) on the inside. This is the Toyota color Cosmic Grey Metallic Pearl. It's a grey, but looks bluish most of the time, with the right daylight however it can look greenish. Sometimes, it looks black too. It only comes on the Camary and looks real nice.

I f***ed up though. I forgot to have the Chevy emblem holes filled in the grill. Everything else is great, but now I've got to fix this :( I'm running CHEVROLET across the hood and would much rather not run the bow tie. :doah:

I'm willing to bet that pictures won't do that color any justice?

Well sh*t, I can't get my ignition barrel out. The key is really bad, the teeth are almost gone and I can pull it out while it's in the run position. For some reason, it's way harder to turn now. When I put the truck down, it was easy. Now, I can get it to turn clockwise with some struggling. But, turning it counter-clockwise is impossible. I've tried for 30 min now, juggling every which way. And yes, of course I tried forcing it.

Really sucks, cause apparently it's the only way to get the bezel out. Looks like I might be in for a whole switch, cause the sawzall is coming out soon. :angry1:

Scraped the carpet out of it today, will probably drive without it for a while. Need to get some miles on it before I paint it all and worry about the interior. Got my throttle pedal mounted up temporarily. I'm only able to use the bottom hole, so I'll need to make something for the upper holes. Cut most of the DBW pedal off, tweaked the old spoon some and welded it to what's left of the DBW arm.

If I remember right the upper hole for the stock pedal comes out somewhere you can drill the dbw pedal without messing it up. I think it was tight in there though? I think thats how I did it, its been a while?

The bottom hole of the factory mount is being used for the bottom of the DBW pedal. I need to come up with something for the top holes. I tried using the holes you're talking about but I didn't like where it landed the armature. Putting it up higher helped reuse the stock pedal and hide the DBW mount.

If you reach behind and push the ignition assembly against the dash, the bezel should screw off. Just make sure to keep the part behind the dash from spinning. You don't need a key to remove the whole switch.

Well, I've read and watch information on how to take it out of the dash. Says you need to turn the key to accessory, push a paper clip into the hole, and turn a little further for it to come out. I've tried holding the back and spinning the bezel but it just continues to spin :( It will tighten back up no problem :dunno:

boy, it may be the stupidest little thing but it sure can take the wind out of your sails when you so desperately want to make progress

I can't remember what holds the column to the dash. I have this one thin bracket but can't believe that's all it is. Does the parking brake bracket also hold it or did I lose something? :(

It should be that strap, then there is a large bolt dead center over the column that it bolts to, too. It's on the bump out/ bottom side of the cowl.
