I know that is necessary, but i don't have much of a plan yet...

Thinking that copying Mark would be easiest, but also thought about two sets of straps and suspending the tank that way...

What Mark did won’t exactly work for a shortbed. Longbeds have a longer flat area of frame behind the wheel wells to work with, shortbeds are dealing with the frame curve toward the front half of the tank.

Some square tube, angle iron and hardware is all you need.

Spectre 31 gallon for a 87-91
Ep381
Tank straps
And?
Skid plate?

Will the 40gal sender work in the 32gal tank? I thought the 40gal tank was an inch deeper.

If it were me, I would buy a new sender. All my older stuff the gas gauge is way off and I'm assuming a new sender would help with that. The crew cab is off by 1/4 tank.

Meh, the after market senders are hit and miss. I’d run it

A welder and two pieces of iron should work

You can mount the tank and the skid without a welder if needed. My first K5 tank was mounted with two pieces of square tube (top of the tank to rest against) and two pieces of angle iron for the skid to mount to.

I'll have to get the tank and get it up in there and go from there

Or....

Save that money and start cutting and set the 40 gal in there however it'll work.

Probably.

But if I go 40 it'll be forward of the rear axle, with the majority of the tank above the bed floor.

Not even sure it would be possible to do either...

there's a crossmember in there.

IMO you can put the burb tank in the bed or you can buy a 31 that fit's under the ass.

Yeah, forward of the axle isn't as clear as you think and it doesn't take much to get close to the driveshaft. I was going to drop my spare tire down about a foot through the bed just behind the tool box and I realized that wouldn't work. You would just have to mount the tank entirely in the bed.

Small update...

Neighbor really wanted to fab up something to delete the evaporator box on the firewall, so he has that and is working on it. No pics yet...

Snagged a GM relay and fuse assembly from a super nice mid nineties Buick in the junk yard. Super nice until someone plowed into the back of it...

6 relays and either 12 or 16 maxi fuses, I think it will fit nicely under the hood. More importantly it will allow for future electrical upgrades to be done safely...

I'll be down as soon as mine runs

And if anyone finds a 77-79 grille with the bowtie in it let me know. Mine perished many moons ago

Little bit late but I happen to have a good one in my stash.....I'll pm pictures later if I have time
