Hahaha!!!!
But unlike those other two, (which by the way, they like my pink truck) , I understand the staring at it to collect thoughts of how/what to do.

But don't start telling your truck nasty little things!!!!!

Hey, everyone does it. I spent the better part of last Sunday drinking beer staring at the 76...

But staring at it doesn't get it built!

If I wasn't planning to swap in a 4l80e I'd probably go full-manual valve body and be done with it. On the Holley I've gone so far as to make my own hole so that it lines up better with the factory angles and I'm still not sure. I'm afraid at this point I'm probably over thinking it. Aside from that, the transmission has worked just fine for 8 or 9 years now.

I think that with any auto trans, there are more horror stories out there due to incompetence of some sort rather than a trans simply "being a bad design".

Gm used millions of 700R4's in several different platforms.

Are they as good as a 4l60e? Probably not. The only real difference is the stupid cable, but they really aren't that hard to set up. And Napa has drop in replacements for the factory cable now. No more buying a "kit" cable if you don't want to.

I don't think they are bad... Unless you get a early one. A 60 is pretty much the same thing. But gm upgraded alot of things over the years to work out the bugs of them.
I personally have blown 5 of them up.

Edit: I also have blown up a turbo 400 (X2)
Turbo 350 (X3) and a 4l80E

I blew up 3 dozen or so mitsubishi manuals. Do I get a gold star?

I've always just shoved the adjuster all the way in then pushed pedal to full throttle and called it good. The way I was taught forever ago in tech school. I've even shoved them all the way in and then just let it adjust as I drive it. Jacks the line pressure and shifts harder.
