1986 K30 - Rapid Learning

Get 'er cleaned up and solid.
long bed should be 20 gal tank . look under at the filler neck tube to tank . if its just rubber hose then 20 gal . if there is a steel tube to fill a long gap then its a factory 16 gal tank in there .

and 16 to 20 gal just need to move the 1 bracket back on the frame . also tanks are left / right both . just the sender is left OR right specific .

thanks man I'll take a look here in a little bit and post back. my gas gauge doesn't work, so I want to do a little gas mileage experiment to see how many miles I can drive before filling up.

200 if your lucky, I think I might have got 6 on last trip home. Calculated 8.5 on way out.

check for a ground wire from sender to frame rail . might be a single wire threw a hole in the frame to the side face of the rail .

if not there or cant find it i have used a hose clamp on a line off the sender before rubber section . then slide in a wire with a crimped end to make surface area for contact . then other end of wire to frame rail .

Pretty silly/basic question, but does anyone have tire pressure recommendations for 235/85R16? I'm seeing 80 psi online for E rated tires, and I think my tires are at 60 right now...

my k30 i run 35-40 in the summer but bump it to 45-50 in the winter with the plow and bassist weight in the rear .

if your not going to haul XXX pounds of weight you do NOT need 80 psi .

Yeah, I'd drop them down closer to 30. Load range E will have stiff sidewalls.

I run mine at 50-60psi.
Firm enough to handle good and roll smooth on my suburban

I really love this truck. I am starting to get to the point where the manual transmission feels "normal". Last night I cruised on I-25 pretty late at night and was able to open up on the throttle a little bit. The motor seemed to easily handle 65-75mph for a sustained period. It's faster than I thought.

On the other hand, I need to start thinking about emissions testing to get this thing registered in Denver. Hopefully whatever solution I come up with doesn't neuter it too much. It feels great right now! Haha

You should try to drive it as much as possible in the days before testing. Make sure there's fresh gas in the tank(s). Also make sure the engine is fully warmed up before you get tested. You might be able to get a temp tag to put off the testing for a bit.

No cat required 86 k30, I bet the AIR system, and possibly an egr.
Make sure you have good clean oil, and the pcv filter in air cleaner housing is clean.
IDK Co. emissions test procedure. do they roll stuff that heavy? 2speed test. test for nox ?
I can help you get it to pass if I know some of that.

Can't you get collector plates to get exempt?

It would still have to be tested once. If it was 1975 and older, then he wouldn't have to do it all.
My county is emissions exempt thankfully ;) I only went with collector tags for the cheap registration.

Also @shima I'm happy to lend a layman squarebody owner's hand as I'm in Denver as well. Having to wrench on mine nowadays too quite a bit. I'm near the DU campus, not sure if you're nearby, but I'd love to see how the truck turned out!

Yup scratching Colorado off my retirement list.

Every year???? even Kommiefornia is every other after 75 ant not until 6 years old on new models.

There is a bill to move the cut off to 80 iirc. Fingers crossed.

Fyi my 77 is registered in Mohave county, no smog test. 5yr tags 126 bucks 1 yr in CA is 200
