1989 Crew Cab Tow Rig Build

Scored some diamond plate bedrail caps from a local dude that was on a long bed sqaure body he was parting out, for $30. All the bolts werr crap and some were missing, so in the pics below they are just sitting there not bolted down

And since I got this black and blue theme going on here, I took a wire wheel to them and scuffed them up and threw a coat of black paint on them. Looks good IMO. Once again, they are just sitting there. Will go get some bolts/screws for it tomorrow and fully mount them

Been doing some more maintenance on the old pig. Ended up installing some drilled and slotted rotors and pad set I found from R1 concepts for a really good price off Amazon. So decided to give it a try. I installed a similar set on my old 96 K2500 and really liked them. And while I had everything off I checked the hubs/spindles (which all looked it great shape) and repacked the bearings with some grease. After that did the break-in procedure. Now put a few hundred miles on it and they are feeling better and better. I need to do something with the rears. I want to do a disc brake swap later on, but I may just say screw it for the time being and fresh'n up the drums and just run it for a while. I think a good brake bleeding will be in the near future too

And I finally got around to installing a new saddle tank on the passenger side now (my storage/transfer tank). I picked up a brand new TBI pump and sending unit (as you can tell from the below picture, there was so much rust in the factory tank, both of those items were a necessity :rotfl:)

Sending unit/pump installed in the new tank. You can kinda see how the lines work below (if you don't want to look way back in the thread for how I did it). The vent line is hooked up like normal, the return line is just capped off, and the feed line ends up routing under the bed across to the main driver tank and ends at the vent/overflow port right next to the main filler tube port. The TBI pump seems to push just fine on pressure to fill up the driver tank as fast as I would care for it to.

One last thing I have on order right now and should show up tomorrow is a brand new hitch for the rear. I thought I could make the one that was on the truck work, but it's not gonna cut it. The one that is on the truck now is a home made hitch that some previous owner put on there... I was thinking it would be fine and hold up good, but one of the first things I towed (some fencing materials above...which wasn't really that heavy) and the hitch already started to bend a little bit. So said screw it and ordered up a nice Class IV Curt hitch and will get that installed this weekend. After that, the crew cab is pretty much good for a while as I need to put some attention to my blazer as I have an off-road event coming up at the end of the month...then after that time will be spent on my new 3/4 ton burb to get it rocking :pimp:

Yikes on the rusty tank!

And shabaam...installed in the truck. It is nice to have 40 gal of fuel capacity again...and it's very nice to know that everything in the fuel system is brand new

I don't know what those black wavy lines/marks are on the bottom of the tank but when I first looked I thought it was a to do list or something. Looked like writing at first glance.

Yeah, tanks were crazy rusty...glad that's past me now

That is just from shipping. They put a little bit of "grease" on the outside of the tank before they ship it...I assume to help surface rust prevention or something like that...so that is what it looked like when I opened the box

Oh and I keep going to post #504 for updates and pics but all I see are pictures of a Doodge and something about rebuilding a transmission for it. :what:

:haha:...I actually forgot I did that. I added that to the title way back when photobucket decided to be douches and stop their third party hosting. So since at the time all my previous photos were gone, that was my way to have people quickly go to posts that actually had pics in it. Now that photobucket stopped their douchiness, I guess I can take it off the title, haha

Oh, and on a side note, I sold that dodge about a month ago now. I was just shy of $2800 total into the truck out of my pocket (including purchasing and everything I did to it from tranny to brakes, interior, etc...) and I sold it for just shy of $10k :yikes:...so since someone was willing to pay that much for the dumb thing, I sold it in a heartbeat, went and bought a brand new dirtbike and a 93 3/4 ton Suburban with a TBI454 with the proceeds...plus had some extra to throw in the bank :rotfl:. The money those stupid Cummins go for is so dumb it's not even funny...but I'm glad I made out good on the fix and flip with that one
