2000 GMC SAS: Hydro assist assistance

Did you make it out this weekend? Sorry I didn't see your question about your rig making it out there. There's quite a few spots you could go play around. If you aren't worried about scratches there's quite a bit you can do. Call or text me next time and Ill meet you out there.

My buddy sells led lights. Bought these today. 10 watt LEDs, should be pretty bright. Had to cut the core support pretty good to fit them, but they're out of harms way.

I didn't end up making it out there. Fixed mom's car then sister's car. Went mountain biking today.

I was kinda nervous to go out alone not knowing how it was. I'm cool with scratches, not a fan of dents.

I don't have your number anymore (new phone). Maybe we can meet up out there next weekend if your not doing anything.

Ill keep my weekend open and plan on going. The dents on mine were from trying to cram my truck into some small wash outs. They were optional. Number is 584 O938.

Met metalneverdies and wife at big red today. Had a blast. Only got one picture though.

Looks good. How do you like wheeling with that much wheelbase? Do you ever plan to bob the bed or anything like that?

Had an awesome time :thumb:

Think i figured out my squeak / steering issue.

Exploded front spring bushing. Hope ORD warranties them. Had less than 1k miles on it.

Few pics I got of your truck. Wish I took a few shots when I was all twisted up before you dragged me sideways :haha:

I had a big long reply typed out about how it's terribly long and it works well so I don't want to change it and my phone deleted the text for some reason.

Long story short I want to lop a foot or two out of the frame when I build a trail style flat bed for it. I'm afraid that it may hinder the truck changing it that much, and I'm really starting to get comfortable with it now. I'd hate to change it too much and have to re learn to drive it. It keeps surpassing my expectations of what a truck this size is capable of. If it fits it usually goes, which works well with my point and shoot driving style.

I plan to integrate some cab corner protection when I do a bed and sliders. I'm going to break that window if I don't. The only straight body panel is the hood now, the good side of the bed is dented up pretty good too.

I can't really bob the bed, its been something Ive considered. The bed ends at the frame rails about an inch behind the shackle hangers.

On the 20th I took a trip to Kansas in the old GMC to see some family. Not many pictures of the action, but I did get some scenery and had a little excitement. Averaged 10-13 mpg.

Kansas: Flat.

My second cousin had a cool old ford. Found it in a junk yard. Turns out it once belonged to his father. So he restored it. Fantastic.

Al likes model fords. Neat collection.

Outside of Ft Scott Kansas I stopped to look at a derailed box car. Heard a belt squeal. Popped the hood and found this:

I was about 20 miles from Ft Scott. Ft Scott was 4 hours from home. It was around 2:30 on a sunday. My phone was barely working, so I called a friend to get me directions to the parts store. They had the parts I needed, lent me their ladder, and came out and shot the breeze with me. Nice guys at the O'Riley's there. Also, the truck has trail gear sliders now.

I was outside of Ft Scott because I wanted to see Brutus. By the time I was done, I was going to be at Brutus at 5. So I called and bribed them to stay over so I could see Brutus. Worth the trip, I'll go back and spend a few hours there.

I'm 6'2" and I can stand up in the tracks.

Best seat in the house.

Cool old truck.

The GMC makes friends wherever she goes.

Kansas roads vs Oklahoma Roads.

And the pulley after removal.

Pictures dont do Brutus justice. If youre into old tech or just cool things you need to see brutus. Nice museum and a friendly staff.

Looks like a fun trip.

That old gmc is awesome. Crazy how things work out like that.

What is the story on Brutus? Oil rig deal, or?

Open pit mining. When the mine closed it was too expensive to take apart and move the shovel so it stayed.

From what I gather Brutus was getting too expensive to run. The museum said the electric bill for Brutus's last month of operation was $27,000. When they shut the shovel down it was too expensive to move. Luckily they donated Brutus instead of cutting up for scrap like a lot of the other giant shovels of the time.

Ah. I thought I read somewhere they had tried to sell it but there were no buyers.

I have drove by the signs for that many times. Kind of wish I had had time to stop and look now.

I believe that to be true as well. Too expensive to move being part of the reason it wouldnt sell. I know a lot of the big shovels that suffered scrapping as their fate had similar stories.

Sounds like you came right by my stomping grounds. Holler the next time you come up this way, especially with the GMC. I'd like to check it out.
