2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
Leaving tonight for a weekend trip. So no more real updates until next week.

I did type out a little bit of a schedule for the wife last night. I can share it here.

First goal, get the Jimmy running in the next week or so. Not driving, just running.
Then start the 4x4 swap on the diesel. That will in turn relieve the 2wd trans for the K5.
Once the diesel is back to drivable, I will focus on getting the k5 drivable also.

At that point all my projects will be in a usable state for the summer, and I can focus on smaller projects on each truck.

Lots of jumping around, but easier to manage and not have too many trucks down.
So your dumping the 2wd trans in the blazer? You building a Baja blazer now or what?

You probably missed that part of the K5 build, it was a while ago.

Bought an adapter and some other parts from @Tnsejed to make my old 2wd trans from the diesel a 4wd unit for the K5.

Yeah,I missed that.
Doesn't the diesel trans have different shift points then a gas trans?

Yes, but after some research, they are actually pretty similar to the 8.1 trucks that ran 4L80's behind them. Also, most of the shift points are set by the TCM, so it really won't be an issue. The only thing that will really effect the swap, is the TC is about 200 rpms higher than the factory 8.1 setup. Not enough for me to really be concerned with.

Fair enough. I put a 454 in front of a diesel t400 in a plow truck once.
I know the t400 had some differences. And I honestly don't recall what it all was. But it just a plow truck (wrapped In a worthless GMT400 body at that). So I didn't care.

Yeah being computer controlled, it makes it a lot easier to swap them out. The other advantage, my 2wd case has a rear speed sensor so I won't have to try and change tcases to accommodate for that.

Either way. I'm excited for you and your swap.
Me too. I told the wife the goal is to have the trucks in a useable state before summer, that way I'm not doing large projects and killing our fun time. She didn't know what do with that information. She's going to have to hang out with me now lol.

Gross. You better bring home some old rusty shit or dream up some stuff.
Hanging out with the wife sounds terrible.

The th400 had a different governor, 20 minute job to change, and a 300 rpm lower torque converter which is fine with the 454.
Actually the governor is probably good too paired with the torque converter.
That's the only difference between diesel and gas on th400, th350, and 700r4

It was too you but for Greg. He’s already in line on it. Me too technically.
Once get my chevelle done with my "phase one" I might sneak home a new project. If one project is "done" then I need to fill the open slot of unfinished dreams in my head.
A burb is kinda what I had in mind. Chevelle will be on road by June. Already booked my hotels for powertour.
