looks like I may be doing an engine swap sooner than I thought...

crack in the water jacket.

wow, it sure pays to shop around!
I need to get some hood bumpers so my hood quits rattling around so I went to LMC to get some. They wanted $2.95 ea for the side bumpers (need 4 total) and $3.95 ea for the front screw types (need 2 total).

classicparts.com had the whole set for $5.95.

sure, we're only talking about a couple of bucks on this particular order but that is a huge difference percentage-wise. :eek1:

well, that was fun...

Caliper_broken.jpg

notice the missing bolt on top and the broken eye on the bottom. :doah:

I was driving along when I heard a pop and a bolt hit the ground. Luckily I DID hear it so I pulled over to see what the hell was going on and found the above. I wasn't far from home so I was able to limp home using just the rear brakes.

I've never lost a caliper bolt before and I can't believe I didn't see it sticking out considering how often I've been under the truck but at least the caliper was under warranty and nothing else was damaged.

Just sharing my fun.

Glad You Made It Safe I Just Had My Starter Go Out On Me While Driving To Work It Started Grinding And Would Not Stop Scared Me Thought It Was Going To Blow. Couldn't Imaging Losing My Brakes

Glad you caught it and got it fixed easily. That could have been pretty bad methinks!

The hydroboost unit I installed last year started leaking like sieve, so I decided to try and rebuild it.

I bought the rebuild kit for $35 and everything seemed simple enough.

split it open per instructions:

laid out all the parts so I wouldn't screw anything up:
hydroboost_rebuild2.JPG

put it all back together and tested it out... :doah:
brake pedal down and then never releases... I don't know what I screwed up, but for some reason the pressure never releases and I can't unlock the brakes. :dunno:

anyway, just ordered a new one from O'reilly's instead. /sigh
I wasn't completely confident it wouldn't have leaked again anyway though. according to the instructions if there are any scratches on the main plunger you have to replace the unit.

hydroboost_rebuild3.JPG

as you can see here, there are some decent size scratches near the end of it that may have been the problem all along.

still, it's disappointing that I put it together wrong somehow. not sure what the issue could be though. :dunno:

just figured I'd share a little of my fail.

My guess your problem was this...wish I saw this sooner for ya

...from the duramax forum: clicky

problem

So I replaced the piston seal yesterday and my powersteering lines finally came into day and when I got it all together as soon as I turn on the truck it immediately sucks the brake pedal down and it never comes back up again. I figured over time it would on its own but it isn't anyone have this issue after a rebuild, it came a part and went together decent no pieces came flying out or anything like that.

solution:

You missed the same critical step that I did the very first time! The pins on that rocker arm were not in the groove shown on the picture

below.

Taken from the how-to above:

When you begin to slide the halves back together, pay special attention to this picture.

If you do not have those pins in the groove, then nothing is holding back the rod. As soon as the pump is running, fluid pressure pushes the rod down (pulls your brake pedal to the floor). Trust me, I did the same thing when I first put it back together. Then I made sure the pins were in the grooves and the pedal was back to normal.

thanks. Too late for me but still good info to have around the next time someone decides to rebuild their hydroboost.

I need to do mine, planned on today but it's been storming all day...:doah:

I'll do a thread when I do :waytogo:

I look forward to seeing it. :) I'm guessing that rocker arm comes out real easy because I was sure I had it in there but I certainly had exactly the problem you linked.

So this is a "nothing to update" update. lol

Just realizing its been 6 months since I did anything to the blazer that was post worthy despite having a list of things needing to be done.

Like Greg I had higher priority stuff to do to the house, but honestly the biggest issue has just been not feeling like doing crap all winter. The single biggest project I did with the truck since blazer bash has been to replace a rocker arm nut that kept walking back.

Luckily the blazer isn't just garage art so I have driven it a few times but with spring here I'm hoping to get some motivation going. Pretty much the point of the post is to get me thinking about what I should do next.

The no update update. All the rage these days.... :)

Sitting here bright and early sipping coffee, with a lot of extra sunshine streaming in the windows..... Daylight saving time is here!! :woot:

Weather is expected to be into the mid-40s today, the snow is starting to melt away and I'm starting to feel that "tingle" of motivation again...I'll be painting the dining room today, but I'll have the windows open and enjoying the fresh air all day. My "honey do" list is getting awfully short these days and it won't be long until the garage doors roll up for the spring building season!!!

The first 1st Gen guy to post up new fun pics is sure to kick start our entire group and get us back into our shops....

That's the truth! Someone needs to post some top down, fun in the sun pics!

Not it.....:doah:

Me either. About three weeks ago I called local shop out bringing the Jimmy in to get new exhaust and brakes finished out. Told my wife "give me a couple weeks to bolt most of the body back together and finish up a little wiring before I take it down." Have yet to touch it, been to busy and its been too cold.

Hoping maybe I'll get a little time now that the days are stretching.
