old yeller - it's not an update, update.

I've been driving mine solid for the past couple weeks, sans-top and all. Mid 80s temps most of the time. None of it off pavement though. :(

All of it transporting supplies and set pieces for my daughters school theatre group. Here's an Egyptian pyramid (and my k5) :)

One of the parents let me borrow his shop for a day. Ultra cool project he's working on merging a 50's Chevy cab with a Toyota tundra bed on a 4x4 frame along with an LS motor. A couple rock crawlers as we'll.

Looky what I found today:

picked up the engine for a pretty good price fully dressed for conversion. Looks like I may need to turn this into an actual build thread! :D

Which yard did you get it from?
Alltruckinc.com
All truck has been fantastic to work with so far. Most yards pull the engines and strip them for sale. Whenever I would ask about buying one fully dressed for a conversion they acted all put out about it and basically told me that if I happened to call when they got a truck in and before they pulled the engine they "might" be able to help me out.

All truck was more than happy to help and I was able to hear the engine run and talk with the guy who will pull it. He knew exactly what I wanted to do and what he needed to make sure to include (even cutting the exhaust so that I get the O2 sensors too) so I get everything. Highly recommend them!

I was thinking that looked like their yard. I like them too, I buy quite a bit from them I think the last 3 or 4 motors I've bought came from them. I love that I can ask them to pull it dressed for conversion and it has everything with absolutely nothing but the exhaust cut and they do it for only 50 bucks more with no core charge.

So when does this project start?

I'll be picking it up tomorrow, but I need to gather parts before I can actually put it in. I will certainly be picking the brains of you guys that have done it before too.
which motor mounts to use, fuel pump, fitment issues, etc...

Write it all down and take pictures while you're at it......:D

yup, I'll document as much as I can as I go.

Good deal.....I'm getting ready to set the body back out of the way and get my frame/chassis into the shop to start fitting the LS1 in.

Mark reflashed my PCM and the harness is going out for rework soon.
Perhaps we can share notes as time goes on?

SWEET. Let me know if you need help or a hand with anything. I get off now a days at noonthirty so I have pretty much the whole day free.

Very interested to see how this all goes together for you. I want to get an LSX in mine someday.

here she is:

sorry for the size on this one, I should have made it smaller.

As you can see, it looks like I got everything I need. Full wiring harness draped over the engine, all accessories, computer, motor mounts, starter, O2 sensors, complete air box and gas pedal and associated parts.

You can also see that 2 of the coils are missing. :mad1: I didn't notice that until I got the covers off. I'm going to go talk to them tomorrow, so hopefully they will replace them without hassle.

Can anyone think of anything else I should have gotten?

With doing an engine swap I may need to turn this into an actual build thread and move to "the driveway"...

Good news on the coils. Turns out that the guy that pulled the engine noticed something wrong with those 2 so he pulled them off and just forgot to give me the replacements. Went down and picked them up without issue.

Also turns out the owner of the yard has 2 1st gen blazers himself. We shot the **** about blazer stuff for awhile. Turns out he's a pretty nice guy.

I started working on the wiring harness last week but decided 97 degrees in the garage sucked!
I decided it was time to get this baby installed:

Much nicer now. Time to start knocking this thing out.

How the hell do you get something like that up there?
The fan assembly inside was detachable so once I took that out it wasn't super heavy, just awkward. I wrapped a tarp around it to keep it from getting scratched up and then just pulled the pieces up with a rope.

I'd never installed a cooler on the roof before, but luckily this one was on the house before so I was able to pay attention when I took it down to recreate everything on the garage.

Now I can work on the wiring harness in comfort! :thumb:
