I was able to measure my friends Tahoe at lunch today. His pedal movement was only 1-1/4".

Thinking back, my pedal movement may have been slightly less than 1" but still that means I may only need to get 1/2" or so more of pedal travel to make things a lot more comfortable.

How about moving the entire pedal assembly mount up on the firewall a bit, and then cut-and-weld a little longer rod onto the gas pedal itself?

You'll get more "throw" with a longer pedal, and it won't be that hard to do...

Come to think of it: Cut the existing pedal and then put a hollow "sleeve" over the two cut pieces so that you can experiment with different lengths easily. (Just do a small tackweld on each side, or drill and tap for a set screw).

You can play around with increments of 1/4" at a time to see what "feels" right without cutting your pedals apart 20 times. :waytogo:

Sometimes the simplest solution is the correct solution. A stock 2003 pedal simply comes off of the sensor assembly with no fancy lever action so I decided to try not making this so damn complicated and bent up a new throttle arm and tacked it into position. It measured at just about 2" of travel, about double what I had before.

I guess I just got caught up making it "fancy".
How it looks now:

But the real question is: How did it work...?

Looks like my '05/ 68 set up. Feels good to me and it's still pivoting off the floor :) You have the '03 TPS computer too right?

Using the stock "spoon" that rests against the pedal. Also, BD Engines welded a small "stop" on the armature and reflashed the idle/WOT positions.

Yeah, I remember you linking that pic before. My '72 doesn't pivot off the floor like the earlier models do so I thought it would need to be done differently. Evidently not. :P I did have to put a pretty good bend in mine though to get it far enough left. I bolted the TPS in using the stock bolt locations so maybe that meant that mine is in further left than yours.

Originally I was trying to come up with a solution that didn't involve messing with the stock pedal because I was still driving the blazer at the time. Once I realized I never needed to go back to the stock pedal arm again it got me thinking about it differently.

Winter project is underway! I just went and put a deposit down on a 4L60E with 128,000 miles on it. They will pull it out of the vehicle and I'll pick it up next week.

Time to start sourcing parts. What all am I going to need?
I still have the connections on my wiring harness for it. The only thing else I can think of off the top of my head is a shifter. Any suggestions?
I found this one interesting:

Not sure if I really want to go that route though. Maybe a more traditional floorshifter...

Sweet!

Is there no way to utilize the stock shifter? No conversion or anything? Something I didn't think of really as I daydream! It will be some time before I get to that though. For now I'll keep taking my notes!

I have tried several different floor shifters and I think they suck to use since they mount so far down on the floor, or you have to build a box of some sort to raise them to a usable level then the box ends up looking redneckish. I prefer the Lokar shifters but in a 16" flavor. I tried the 23"; it ended up being about dash pad height and looked more rat fink than I wanted. The added benefit of the Lokar is they have tons of adjustment and should come up throught the existing hole in the floor.

If I had an automatic I'm sure I could, but mine is a stick so no shifter to adapt.

I used my factory shifter on my 4l60e long live the column shifter.
Hmmm, you've got me thinking... I wonder if getting a column out of an automatic and swapping it in would be worth doing... I don't want to give up my tilt-wheel though.

What's your plan for the nv4500? What made you want to ditch it?

Mostly I just want to go automatic. I'm getting older I guess and I'm just getting sick of shifting. :P Maybe with a different transmission I would have been willing to keep it but the huge gap between 2nd and 3rd is annoying as hell. I didn't realize before I had it put in that it was exactly the same as the 465. Also, I think I have the 5th gear issue. The transmission makes all kinds of noise when you let off the throttle while in 5th gear. I don't know what my plans are for it just yet. I guess I'll try and sell it, but I may need to fix whatever is wrong with 5th gear first.

3 pedals in a sports car.... I get that. 2 in a truck seems like the right number to me. :)

Lol. Glad we can all help your ideas come along! Plenty of autos with tilt wheel out there I'm sure. Mine is!

I'm definitely not old, but I like the 2 pedals too! Less thinking with what we all use them for. cruiser crawler doesn't matter.

f*ck column shifters... it's the ANTI-performance choice..

yeah, I really don't feel like messing with the column right now anyway.
Probably going to go with that Lokar shifter or something similar.

Transmission is here.

What would you do as far as fix ups? Replace the filter? More?

I forgot to ask for the dipstick so I'll have to try to get that tomorrow. Also, I know my wiring harness included a neutral safety switch but I'm not sure I still have it. Can/should I run without it? I'm also going to ask for the cooler lines. I probably can't use the whole line but at least I can get the right fittings for the transmission side. I *think* that my radiator is set up for transmission lines... gotta check on that.
This weekend I'm going to hit the junkyard and see if I can round up a brake pedal from an automatic. Also going to order that lokar shifter I think.
