Got the D44 out and ready for regearing:

trac-lok in the D44:

Realized I'll need an open carrier for the Aussie locker.

While taking apart the D44 I ran into this little surprise:
Broken_caliper2.jpg

The lower caliper bolt on the passenger side was broke. Both bolt holes were broke off as well.

I'm not sure what would have caused that. About a year or so ago I lost the lower caliper bolt on that same side. I don't remember if I replaced the caliper when that happened, but if I didn't maybe it was damaged somehow making this happen. I'll have to keep an eye on it in the future. Weird that it is a reoccurring issue.

I believe that the problem is due to the caliper mount not being tight enough to hold the caliper, which is putting an improper about of pressure on the caliper bolts. See the gap between the caliper and the mount/slide.

Thats a good deal on parts in my opinion. Hell, I paid half that just the the Detroit for my 14sf....

Eric walked me through a lot of my patterns when i started playing with gears. Good to hear he is gonna help.

Hmmm, I'll take a look and compare it to the other side. May need to replace it.

What is wrong with the trac lock? I must have missed it.
It's a trash lock, they suck on anything larger than 31s, have any weight, any horsepower, yellow paint, or zip ties.
It's terminal

Just curious if it would work on a mild sand toy. Ive always got buddies asking if I have anything etc.

His seemed to pull ok in Moab. But I think there were a few times he wanted a little more.
Mine has a Powr Lock, which is similar to a Detroit in function but smoother
The trac loks sure are plentiful though

I have heard that they can go boom and break the case, and have seen a few broken ones

My power trax no slip let me down this summer. I rarely use 4x4, but the 2 times i did start burying the rear and put it in 4, only one tire was getting power... :(
