Anyone found a good source for "wire loom"(or whatever you call it)? The prices on the Painless site are........uhm......Painful.

I bought a new one from The Truck Shop (Orange). I researched the shit out of it (like we all do with everything), and the prices were coming up within ~$100. I looked at different combos for aftermarket gauges, having mine rebuilt (swapped emails with a few people who rebuild them), looked at buying the parts/rebuilding it myself......etc. At the end of the day I was still within about $100 from just buying the complete (new) package. If you appreciate the original as much as I do, it's a no-brainer. Ironically, a good friend picked up a decent (I don't have the heart to point out the rocker panels/windshield posts yet) '70 C10 and the PO added Pro-Comps. I think it looks nice, but not as nice as the stock. I guess it depends what your priority is - Dead on, balls accurate (to channel Marisa Tomei), or stock look.

Amen brother! Pesci was hilarious, as always, but she made that movie. Hell, I'm originally from NY (Long Island, bailed when I was 13) and have always disliked the whole hardcore "NY" thing (attitude, speech patterns, accent, puffy hair, excessive makeup, etc.), but her in that movie........hell, had me re-thinking everything...........I'm still confused!

I think your options for wiring are American Auto Wire, Painless and the ebay 21 Circuit EZ Wiring. I believe there are several on here that have been impressed with the EZ wiring kit. But Painless and AAW are the big names in the game.

You'll also see Painless and AAW pop up on here and 67-72 brand new, with shelf wear, as people have bought them and never used them and sold off the project. Also, summit was giving somewhere between $100-200 off last year, so you may see that pop up again if you aren't in a hurry.

I used the AAW harness when I rewired mine. I liked it a lot.

All of that research, and look what I discover in the box the gauge panel came in.........

In the interest of continuing to 'Pay if Forward', the Painless Wiring Fuse Block comes with a horn relay installed, so no need for either of those relays I posted pics of last weekend. Steering column turned into much more than I anticipated (as do most things with this build.....). Everything in pic above is pretty much 'mocked up.' I don't want to final install anything until I have all of the new switches installed and wired, and decide whether or not I am doing Vintage Air. Although I was dead set against it, never planning to put the top back on, do I really want to dump this much $$$ and time into this thing and cut a corner? If I do end up on my land in Texas someday, odds are good that top is back on, and A/C is vital, so I might just dump the $1500 and put it in while I am doing the build.......still deciding.

Oh, and another lesson learned - if you go with the CPP steering column, you will need a Wiring Harness adapter (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/...-performance&gclid=CLH6_ZCJkdQCFVFsfgodDzoA4A). And another - steering column has a notch in it, area it mounts has a little nub that sticks down, the two mate. Took me an hour to figure that out..........

That's the struggle of a multi-year build for sure!

I've got a gajillion pieces of paper from all different places each with a small "gem" of knowledge that I know will be critical later on.... the challennge will be finding them all again at the precise moment that I need them.

It's a sinking feeling for sure... :yikes:

Vintage Air Gen-IV system..... for the win. It's allegedly the best system available now and has beautiful servo controls that replace the old cable actuated ones from 50-years ago. But still looks 100% stock. I'm all about stock...as you know.

Spent the day testing all of the switches, windshield wiper motor (great write-up on 67-72 about that btw), etc. Ordered everything I need to finish up the dash/switches. Gonna go with the Vintage Air, just need to decide if I want to delay completing the engine ($$$$) or put off the Vintage Air until later. I'm getting a little nervous about my fenders, hood, tailgate, etc. still being at the body shop. Although I know it is 100% easier to do now, I am spending some serious cash on this thing right now.......another $1500 thrown in the mix would delay my engine completion. I think I'll swing by the body shop next week and feel it out.

BTW - RockAuto had the best price on a Wiper Motor (by $60!), but the Truck Shop had the best on the pump portion (Both of mine were bad, motor only ran in one speed, pump impeller was in pieces). Truck Shop was best for all of the switches, knobs, retaining rings, etc.

It's always good to hear where people found the best prices for various items. That's useful info for future builds for sure.
