heres what I got to deal with the floor, the corners are weak around the existing cage....the tailpan support? is weak and is sagging from quarter panel to quarter panel, considering a 2x4 replacement to straighten that up, or should I put a new "cap" over the weak rear tail pan and call it good for now....remember this is no cherry, and the tailgate closes good right now! Thoughts?...the cage is tied in as it sits, can I jack up the box quarters enough to get a new straight piece in there?

Yes I have.

I would cut it all out and start over no reason to save any of it. I would even look into a truck tailgate not like you use the back window.

running out of fuel is actually a big deal in the rocks Heath. I have seen plenty of guys roll because the carb sputtered and they rolled back a foot or so, or the engine dies because of it and causes you to go backwards. Running out of fuel is actually a really big deal in the rocks

Could be different with a 350 and I do run about a half quart more than I am supposed to but I have never had pressure drop off too much at some pretty stupid angles.

Good info Eric. When I used to have my carb and it would sputter and/or die it wouldn't matter, but I did say "most of the time" because I figured in a hairy situation it could be really bad. With my TBI tank w/ baffle I have been worried it would run out of oil pressure before, and it never ran out of either. But I can imagine with his setup it would run out of oil well before it ran out of fuel.

sorry just reading this, but dave are you going to bb this year? I know I wont have my rig ready for it due to the 20 plus grand I am putting into my barn/shop. But I may like to proposition you to ride along or we can use my duramax to head out that way/ split fuel etc.

Hey Jess, great offer, but I'm not able to this year....I'll be flying to the Alberta CK5 get together end of August.

My plan, along with Kert and Eric is to haul our junk out for 2014....with the CC's!
Adam is planning on riding along at this point, and if your up for that I'd be glad to have you along. If your rig is ready and you want to trailer out, that would be awesomer too!

Nice work, Dave. :waytogo:

That is really getting after it. Are you going back with flat or original for the bed?

chop/cut/rebuild

right Paul! No need to reinvent the wheel on this project!

Mike, I'm going with a flat steel floor, raised 2" for additional fuel tank clearance, and probably 14ga. Will have Kert cut it for me when I make the trip to his place in Mar.
I plan on making a new rear crossmember, from box corner to box corner, and a new body mount crossmember where the existing floor is still there, that one will go wheelwell to wheelwell, then tying them together parallel with the frame, so a new box shape that will have some body mounts made out of some much stouter metal than the original sheet metal plates were.

This plate that the rear seats bolt to, is bolted to the floor where the wells are for the original bench....I think I will go up that far to get a new attachment point for the rear seats as well....although the floor seems pretty solid in that area, it would simplify the mounting of the rear seats...
