I just talked with a local truck repair garage in the area. He said they have seen it before, and they have a fixture setup to bore, sleeve and rethread it. So I'll be taking it to them to do. These guys seem to be pretty up on their knowledge of truck stuff. I got my springs for the Blazer there, and a driveshaft made for the Vette there. I'm going to try to get it to them tomorrow. We'll see how long this takes.

I'm sure they know what they are doing, but their isn't much meat on the top half of the "C". I'm guessing their overbore is minimal, but you wouln't want to remove too much material up there. Do they press or weld the sleeve in?

I'll be finding out tomorrow I hope. I'll post up with what I come up with.

it sounds like they can hook you up,Dave.cool . :D there was a place down 8 mile{across the street from the place we ate at} that only worked on 3/4 ton trucks and up. Kliffel Tire. when i lifted my 86 f-250,back in 86, the caster and camber was all jacked up. it had that goofy independent front. when i dropped it on the tires the first time, it was riding on the sidewalls?:eek1:a few passes back and forth fixed that, but it was still way off. so i took it to the fella's at kliffel. and they made it ride as smooth as it did when i drove it home new. and that was with 40 inch bias ply's.;)

I took my D60 to the spring and driveline shop today, and spoke with the mechanic doing the work. The jig mentioned above is to drill the hole for a heli-coil, not a bushing of some sort. Perhaps my mis-understanding, or perhaps mis-spoken by the counter person.
He said they have done these before, but not in quite a while. If for some reason he can't get a heli-coil, he has other methods of repair of the hole. .......and don't worry, it will be solid when he's done with it.
This guy cracks me up....i.e. He is a gruff old dude, that when you ask him about something he jumps right to an answer kinda like he's heard it a hundred times from others.
This guy seems to know his stuff pretty good, and suggested U-joints for the front axles that are solids, and stronger than whats in there now. (which are both bad).
He has built stuff for some monster trucks, some pullers (1200tq/5.9 cummings powered), and lots of drag stuff. He seems to have the experience needed here.
I also am having them put in a 1410 yoke, and replacing the pinion seal, replace the inner axle seals, and having them rebuild the kingpins while they have it, as I couldn't get the lower caps off either side.....did you see that pic above of the bearing. This stuff is beat up, and rusty as hell.
I got other sh!t to do....have at it boys.

Sounds good. Post pics!

When I did my kingpins, I was worried about the uppers, but the lowers were much more difficult.

Time to tear into this skank....

I have that same Perma Cool filter kit (minus the gage). I haven't gotten around to installing it yet. Let us know what you think.

I will evaluate most things put on the truck eventually. I just see it being at least a few more months though.

Cylinder head breakdown of work and head/cam/intake manifold components purchased.
$106 Edlebrock Performer intake
$100 781 Castings
$285 Comp Cams Ultra Magnum Roller Rocker Arms
$120 Comp Cams Xtreme XS268S-10 solid flat tappet cam
$125 Engine Pro oriface drilled solid lifters
$80 Comp Cams Magnum .080 wall pushrods
$110 Stainless 2.19/1.88 valves

$165 K-Motion #800 Valve Springs, Comp Cams moly retainers, machine steel locks, and exhaust valve rotator eliminators.

Head castings were cleaned, blasted, surfaced, ported, guides replaced, machined for bigger valves, and assembled.

Intake port matched to heads. this took considerable amount of material out of the intake, as it was cast to match the peanut port heads. He blended the ports into the manifold about 2".

Cam Specs:
.553/.568 gross lift.....016 lash
230/236 duration @ .050
110 lobe separation.

Valve spring specs:
#K-800---1.460 diameter double Special Silicon spring that is good for camshafts with up to .700 valve lift.
165# @ 1.850 - 471# @ 1.200 - coil bind @ 1.085

Now here is what I thought was amazing.....this guy got me most of these parts at his racer cost, and then only charged me $450 for all the labor/machine work.
Then he tells me he only put the outer springs on the valves to not have so much spring pressure for proper cam breakin, and that when I get the breakin done, he will come to my house to put the inner springs in. I love this guy.
And he has a dam fast dragster.

do you have a link to where you got the cooler and gage?

Sure, glad to help.
I actually have a temp sender and guage setup from a previous project, so what is pictured isn't exactly what I bought, but it is what I will end up having anyway.

does the remote filter really help that much?

i'll be fallowing your th400 setup...

I probably wont' do a whole lot of detail on the THM build, as there is a few good threads on that already....but if there is something you'd like to see, I can document it. Let me know. My computer is crashed right now (I'm on the work comp right now) I got a hell of a virus, and have a guy trying to staighten it out. Til the no pics. I do have a few issues with the trans case. It has a couple holes in the bellhousing area, like someone put a chisel through it???? I'll get them plug welded up, and start rebuilding this week.

Stopped in today to pic up my halfshafts for the Vette, and to see the D60 mechanic. He couldn't get a helicoil that big, so he taper bored the kingpin hole, and is taking a grade 8 bolt, and machining it on a lathe to fit the taper of the hole he bored. Then he will weld that in, grind it smooth to the surrounding areas, and rebore the threaded hole for the new kingpin. I'll get some pics up when I get it back.

In addition, I took my empty T400 case to a welder, to plug the holes in the bell housing area of the case (again pics to come, when I get my friggin' computer back.)
I talked with Coan today, and ordered a deep aluminum pan for it too. The stock deep steel pan, has been beat up pretty good, and just don't look like something I want to put back on.
The aluminum pan will have a drain, and a port for the temp guage.

That's cool, never would have thought to do it that way.
