You gotta check it out then Jess, although I have heat

Thanks to Kert for that, its a very stout setup.

I have heat as well, bender hasn't showed up yet. I guess the bender will be here tuesday and my dies will be here thursday. :( Oh well. I figure I'll get some stuff done on my rig. Gotta pull the engine(rear intake is leaking oil) and I'm gonna pull the bed off to get ready to :hack: the frame 20 or so inches :)

Sounds good Jess, did you have a woodburner for heat, I can't remember.

I'm messing around with the rear traction bar setup right now, then on to exhaust system, then on down the list.

I have a burner, just haven't put it in yet. With the new insulation and the 100k BTU salamander its comfortable enough to work in a sweatshirt. BTW did you guys ever get pics when you ran bundy hill?

Yeah, Heath's wife took a few with her phone I think, but I can't even get them from the pic he sent me, to upload to a file and transfer them to photobucket....Next time I'll go a little more prepared.

I can forward what I got to you on email.

Today I remeasured the pinion and t/c yokes as Eric suggested..off the yoke without the ubolts attached, I also put the ujoint in the yoke and tapped it to seat it in the yoke, then did my measuring....t/c is at 6* and pinion is adjustable at this time, but I got it set at 6* right now with the frame rails level. I will make my traction bar set up based on this, and I can finish install the upper tube, but the lower tube of the traction bar, I will weld in when we get ride height finalized.

Got the side plates measured for location, and have them bolted on. I welded each of the nuts inside the frame.

Then welded the crossmember bar, and the lower plate to the side plates, and leveled the shackle link to the crossmember bar.

The upper traction bar link I cut to length. There will be a little room to play with, as the shackle can move a couple inches either way. the lower link will have to wait until the pinion angle is set.

That is a very nice looking set-up. I'll be putting that on my extended wish list. keep up the pics. too. I like how it's coming together.

Thanks guys, the more I work on stuff, and have good results with, the more I am eager to get to more...

Today I got the rear shocks mounted. I kept thinking I needed to mount them where the factory mounts were. Because I moved the axle back 4" It put about a 45* angle on the pass side shock, and it ended up being too short. So a clean look at mounting I came up with a center mounting bar similar to what Kert has, and it positions the shocks more vertically, and I can have some options for mounting depending on how much travel I need.

Ironmaiden058.jpg

I used Kerts lower shock mounts and just tacked them on the top side of the axle for now....It was a squeeze getting them in between the spring Ubolts and the truss.
They will be permanently welded when everything suspension wise is confirmed for position.

I also started working on the exhaust. The pass side is a tight squeeze between the t/c; frame; and the body, but I put about a 1/2" thick piece of wood between the frame and the exhaust tubing, and on top of the t/c also. This should allow some spacing for movement of the t/c and also give a little airflow room around the piping.

I am making a couple brackets with a stand off, for each side to mount a section of the exhaust tubing rigidly to the frame where it passes by the t/c. This first prototype bracket will have a 3" section of 2.75 I.D. thick wall pipe welded to it. That can be used with a clamp to hold the exhaust tubing.

I will use a short section of flexible stainless woven pipe to attach between the header reducer and the rigidly mounted pipe.

I like your exhaust idea. You could basically hard mount the entire exhaust, no more crappy rubber hangers :)

I really like the exhaust idea. Where do you get the flexible SS sections?

I searched for flexible stainless exhaust pipe....many options to choose from. This particular one pictured is on Amazon..like 23$ each...2.5 ID, and 6-8-10-12 inches long.

Go Dave Go!

Thanks Paul, hey did you get my PM?

That's my plan Jess, keep it put!

oh, :doah: yeah.. sorry bud, meant to get back to that.. i'll try to get to that tonight when the dungeon dust settles...... or i keel over, one way or the other... :D

That's cool Paul, I know your chin deep in stuff to do on your rig too.
Its down the list a bit, so no big hurry. I just wanted get going on the parts part of it.
Thanks man!

Keep at it Dave, it's looking good! I want to see that rig mobile this coming season!

Yah def want to see it under its own power. We need to get a date in april or something to all run bundy or SL together. I'm shooting for right after tax deadline to have my rig done.

A planned run sounds great guys, I'd like to be optimistic and say it'll be done, but reality has humbled me before. Eric is coming in April to help me with the cage and tube work, and I know I'll have a list to complete when we get that done, but I'm really hoping for June 1st. that will give me a month to shake it down before the 4th of July at Silver Lake. I'll keep plugging away at it, and hopefully make good progress between now and then.

I just ordered my exhaust pieces today.

Let me know when that is. What size tube are you going with? I'm going with 1.75 for mine. I ordered the 240 degree die so I can do 180 deg bends. I thought you picked up a SandW Cage. Anyways I can bring my bender out durring april and we can get to work. That way Erik Doesnt have to ship it out ect. If you want to shoot for june I'm okay with that. I really want to wheel with other chevys. Running with all jeeps sucks!
