I like that a lot! I've been wanting to relocate mine on my work truck to hopefully get a better ride. but most move it A LOT and have a 6" shackle. I really like how you did it, nice work :thumb:

Here's the new angle moved 1.5" forward. The mounting is level with the previous mount:

Do you have fairly stiff springs?

You may end up a bit to extreme of an angle. Is the engine in? What else is happening up front that isn't there yet. Cab is pretty serious weight. Winch? Heavy bumper?

He has superlift springs Kert so yah they are a bit stiff.

I used best guess, his truck is a big block and mine is a diesel so engine weight is about the same. We have the same springs. I would imagine Dave to be a bit heavier than me. So I used my Jimmy as a guide to do it. Just used mine to measure everything and best guess how far I think it should go forward.

Typically speaking with those springs and just about any lift spring I have seen the shackle ends up pointing straight up and down. If not a bit forward. Dave should not hit to extreme of an angle. In fact I bet it doesn't change much with all the weight on it.

6" Superlift springs (which changed the bottom shackle angle by less than an inch with the engine/trans/and doubler in the frame, frame is bare right now, all Iron BBC, Winch, tube winch bumper.
Maybe an inch longer shackle?

Here is the frame empty in stock Front Shackle eye location, The shackle angled slightly forward at the bottom:

This is Erics K5 with the same spring pack and a 6.2 in it:

Had my buddy Dan over helping today, we first had to get the trans/doubler out of the way, to make the shop a little easier to get around in, and have more room on the moveable bench. When I set the trans and doubler on it, it about went through it, so we reinforced the legs and under side of the table top. More stout now.

We got all the holes drilled for the Shackle eye mounts, the nuts welded on the back side of the mounts, tapped the threads, and got them put in.....the shackle angle seems just slightly angled back a few degrees from Verticle:

Ironmaiden168.jpg

We got one more piece of boxing metal added to the pass front:

Ironmaiden166.jpg

Tried to get the boxing metal down to the front shackle eye mounts, but my hole saw crapped out on me....need to see if I can borrow one from work tonight, so that held us up from more boxing progress.
BTW Kert, the rear boxing pieces you sent look like they will work real nice!

Hey Chuli- you must be on the eastern side huh?
Hey Eric is coming and he's 1500mi.....but then he's in it for the free travel.:haha:
yeah man.im in eastern pa.i could use the free travel to help and all,but the time off is already set in place.lol.my moms comin in from alaska tomorrow for a week.hope all goes smooth.as they say many hands make for easy work.good luck.that front shackle looks about right as far as angle.you may need an inch or 2 longer one if it flexes enough to hit.but then you have to worry bout pinion angle and castor again.so see how it rides and go from there.

I'm thinking a little longer shackle as well, these springs have a degree wedge under them, but not sure how much it is.
If I put a longer shackle in, that moves the pinion down slightly right?
Now with 39.5's should I be putting a zero rate in to move the axle forward a little more?

You're probably right Eric. I'm used to working with the softer springs. Going by the before/after pics, should be pretty good.

Looks like boxing is going well. It's a tedious process of fitting. Good to hear the rear pieces will work out. I've forgotten what they looked like or what we did.

_I'll get some pics of them in place before I make any mods to them.
And an FYI, those are KERTS' Spring Eye Hangers, not FUSH as I mislabeled them.

Post #1505 last picture, Red tip on the hose, Fuel line?

I have Kert's spring eye hangers as well, my stock hangers were roached. The DIY parts were beef, and I was super happy with the quality.

PM me the shoulder stuff when you hear back Dave...mine is getting worse the last couple of weeks.

Mine were oval'd out some too Rene'

Ironically my shoulder felt better when I went in for the MRI than it had in weeks...perhaps all the Aleve I've taken had made an improvement?

But by the time I got out of the machine, I couldn't even lift my arm up:confused:

I talk to the ortho surgeon next week...I'll let you know.

It lookin' good Dave, I am looking forward to seeing it in person.

I'm getting there guys, had a slow weekend, had to get the driveway dragged and raked, to level out the ruts, and helped my brother get settled in, and we talked for a while about his upcoming Sh!tstorm, actually hopefully the worst is over, he has been in hell for quite a while now.

But back at it today

Right in the middle of working on the boxing parts, the carrier brings me a box of goods:

Ironmaiden174.jpg

Kinda rough shape but it made it...

yeah, goods for the cage build:

I'll post up a few of making the boxing pieces fit:

Here this piece is roughly in place then I drilled a 2.375 hole for clearance around the shackle eye hanger:

Clamped in place and marked for material removal:

Cut to size and A coating of zinc on the backside:

Clamped in place for tacks:

looks good...nail it:

The finish area after some cleanup and smoothing of the welds:

Someone told me the difference between a good fabricator and a bad one is the amount of grinding you have to do.....I do a lot of grinding.

It's lookin good Dave!

Be careful with the grinding though, you may be grinding away strength just for asthetics. My father told me not to grind on my welds because I was grinding away the material. Most of the time, if I have to grind on it, I grind it out and redo it.

Heath, I grooved out the joint to a VEE before welding them, so there should be a little more thickness of weld than the thickness of the metal plates themselves....does that sound OK?
