welcome aboard....I have been watching yours....very nicely done:waytogo:

I think I will proceed with the plan described above, it should be a quick (comparitively) fix to make this work now. Remove one bar, put in a temp, draw the side bars into place, then weld a shorter bar in the top.
I really appreciate the offer, and if you still got it, and I'm headed to Chicago again in the future, maybe we can work something out, I may be interested in one for my trail trailer build in the future.
If only I knew about it when I took Eric to Ohare.:dunno:

Adam, right now I would, and we can hook up sometime in the near future I think. I would look at it to maybe just clip the top roof portion off of it, and use it as a source of shade. The top would then be attached directly to the upper most bars of the cage, and the front cab section of the truck.
What shape is it in?

couldn't sleep, and this finally got ya there huh?:pimp:

So what do you think about it all?
I really like seeing the body, and top on it right now, even if it is temporary.

I love the truck & and your passion for it...I've been wanting to build a truck since high school...still waiting...:doah:

I'm scared since I seen how fast the $$$ adds up, even doing it yourself...:eek1:

Your work on the 14 bolt has me thinkin about just getting one from boyce equipment, or someplace like that.

But I am definenatly digging it, great work & workmanship :waytogo:

we were doing an emergency babysitting gig last night, watching a 10 month old. I was trying to keep my Bride company & help her out...the baby's mom finally got out of the e.r. at 6 am...long night for everone.

I did and you are right!
Oh it was last weekend huh. I don't follow Nascar too much, NHRA for me. A weekend at the races rates right up at the top of the list for me. If it ain't raining, its a good day for racing.

Hey, one of the biggest reasons I post up alot of pics, is to help others. I've recieved a lot of help here, and there is a boatload of it here, its just kinda hard to take the time, and do the homework to find it.
I've had my issues with this buildup, some of them my own, some of them misfortune of bad parts, what have you. The 14 I built is going to be lacking nothing. That isn't necessary to get one under your truck. My costs were expounded on because of a bad pinion gear, requiring replacement, and also the purchase of a Detroit, which can be had in military 14's. So basically I ended up starting with a housing and carrier and good bearings. everything else got replaced, certainly not a economical axle the way I did it. I also like to have everything pretty much fresh on a build, that way I know exactly where I stand with it, and don't have any questions in my mind about what if's.

So plug away my friend, shop around for that 14....learn by my mistakes, and certainly ask questions in the garage...PM me if I can help you out with anything too.
Is there any 14's around Ft. Bragg? I got a brother who lives about 50 mi away, I can ask him what's around if your looking.

The little woman has to be glad to have you around, I'd have been crashed out probably.

dont be scared of the 14 ff rear. almost the most stupid easy axle to work on.

and boyce equipment = big bucks for same product from others cheeper.

o.k., o.k.... there's tons of them in va beach area...stoopid cheap too..that's where I did most of my growing up.

I still gotta get my $$ lined up. I was taking a small loan from my 401 to take care of some things, was going to take a little extra for the truck.

Bastages denied it, waiting on the explanation letter...:dunno::doah:

Ft Bragg's a couple 2-3 hours from here I think. I may take a trip this summer, if nothing else just to meet your Brother.

I live near in Havelock, between New Bern and Morehead City.

re my Bride, I'm the lucky one. She's my best friend!:waytogo:

Hey Dave, there is a shop around here that will make you a top for your blazer.
Seen some off there work they do a really good job.
Off work for a little while get a hold of me, we can go down there and check it out.

sounds good, where are they at?
I got a couple days off next week, shoot me a PM and we'll check it out.

something like this is what I'm thinking:

cagepic-1.jpg

I ordered one more stick to finish this up...should be in tomorrow, or monday. This will use up just about all the tube I have, so hardly any will go to waste, despite not using the S&W bars in their intended locations.
I think it will be a pretty sweet cage when I get it done.

gonna be a sweet cage when your done man. way better than the S&W. I'm glad its coming around. :waytogo:

Yeah, I hope so Rick, I'm gonna throw a couple additional bars in a few other locations too, just some touches I want to put in there.

running a column shifter eh?

No, but I want a tilt column, and mine is the garbage heap special.
I also want to use the XJ(?) shaft I got from the junkyard, and the one I have is the D shaped one, and the column I have is the round version. Jess said he might have a D shaped one.

Truck megashifter....you didn't miss it, I just never got a pic of it set in position, got if from a CK5'er....I will need to make a mounting bracket for it, but it'll be right next to the triple sticks, cept high enough to reach with shoulder harness' on. I need to find a reverse pattern for it still.

wasn't sure if you had mentioned... good deal, as ya know I'm definitely a proponent of floor shifters.....

Yeah me too, I'm not sure how well this one will work out, but it'll beat the three on the tree mode of shifting I think. I just have to get used to a reverse pattern MVB.
I missed a shift on the Vette the other day, because of old habits of normal pattern.
Luckily the Valve body and innards are setup to allow no engine braking.

In the garage, I took the hardtop off and moved the K5 back to the shop to shorten the upper rear bar so it will fit inside the hardtop with a little clearance on each side.

This things a PITA to move, with no steering.

Removed about 1.25-1.5" from the width of the cage at the upper bar, then put a 2x4 spreader in to hold the tailgate gap in place, then used a tie down strap to pull the sides in.

Should be about a fingers gap between the bars and the top now.

Before the cut of the top bar:

And after the narrowing:
