I like the drain idea!
You never know when you need a empty tank, and it's always full if you need to work on it.
Murhpy's Law!

I agree a drain is a great idea. I could have used one more than once.

I also have been victimized by a **** pump in a fuel tank full of fuel!
I can finally apply some logic from learning!

I can't figure out where I got that bulkhead fitting Dave. The brass one in the picture of my tank.

Is that a brass barbed fitting with pipe threads, screwed onto a bulkhead fitting?

Mostly to add a coating seal inside. I helped a friend build a tank for his mini chopper and we got some stuff to pour in and slosh around to seal the inside metal. Seems like I just read about guys using some bedliner product for same idea just recently because it doesn't break down in gas.

I've heard of some stuff called SLOSH, for leaky gas tanks, I could see it for a steel tank, aluminum should be ok for gasoline, maybe alcohol would degrade it?

I'm not sure, might be something to look into before you put gas in it.

The bulkhead fitting is AN male/AN male, the brass fitting is Female AN/barb I believe.

Not sure I'm even finding the the right bulkhead fitting. Everything i'm seeing right now is listed for firewall or frame passage, not fuel tank bulkhead.

Your tank will be leak tested before it leaves the shop but if you want to put something in there we can do that as well.

We'll have to put the sealer in before the pickups go in but after all the welding. Since the top will be the last part we put on, there won't be any sealant type stuff on the top corners.

Well, I'm thinking it will be fine Kert.
And can we plan on welding in bungs for the fill vent and the return line ports?
And what do you think about the filler tube....Is there 1.25 od aluminum available for that somewhere?

I have the rollover vent already, and will order the hardware for the other ports, depending on what we decide for attachment.

Here are some bungs....is this what we need for the two vent fittings?

Kert, any issue with this filler neck being on the two surfaces of the tank....I know we talked about putting the top and two sides on last. I think this could be put into the top and one of those two sides...I think it would give it more strength being on the edge of the box as well?

looked at these two sending units as well, any thoughts?

No problem putting the fill tube in the corner like that. Just need an angle mesurement.

the other unit...both have a 2 year warranty, and about the same price...0-90 ohms....is one better than the other???

Only real difference is the depth those two units will work with. Otherwise either one would work. The first can be modded for a much shorted depth tank.

I do like the one Ryoken linked. Looks like packaging that would be stupid simple.

run a floatless setup, no moving parts... ;)

Ryoken, how does that adjust?

As far as fitting goes, i have some Aluminum NPT bungs at the shop. I would advise to stay with AN and the same size if you can. NO, it doesn't need to be that big but I like to keep things the same size. YOu never know when you might wish you had a fitting you could rob from a vent line for temp use to get you off the trail.

on the one I pictured, the 2 dashpot screws on top adjust the trim.. you calibrate it on install... the newer digital one is done with a magnet...

I will get the angle of the filler neck finalized when I get the unit back in the truck, and also get the line sizes figured out for sure, right now I know I need to come out of the tank and do an immediate 90* to go to the pump, within 3", IIRC?
the senders both will work for the depth tank we have here.

good point on that, by the looks of the pump inlet, I'd say -6 is bigger than the small restriction in the pump...they seem small to support 600hp??

cuz it's boat stuff... ;) not the cheap option obviously, they run like 125 to 150...

we run ton's of VDO stuff in the marine biz tho...

I think that will be the choice of sender to use on a bed tank for the CC!

whew, last night was fun, but today is aweful foggy....:doah::doah:

Sounded like you were hosting it last night Dave! :haha:

Sorry for the hijack but you mentioned it. :doah:
