Made a plastic corrugated back window...fit it into the channel weatherstripping on the sides and used some small screws to hold it in place .
Made a z channel to hopefully divert rain to the outside.
It is a bit of a pita to get in underneath the panel but keeping water and dust out is the primary goal here.
I have to get out a front door as there is no way to open the tailgate from inside.
Hopefully a more permanent solution would be to make a framework similar to a pickup cap that would mount to the outside of this topper and close against the tailgate.
Got the door handles hooked up on the two doors and hopefully the weatherstrip kits will arrive monday

This annoys me. A lot. Why oh why are multiple factory configurations unable to release people from the inside? I even have a handle on the inside of my tailgate, but I can't use it unless someone outside has lowered the glass first. Argh.
You're running just a truck gate, right? With a normal truck topper you should be able to open the topper from the inside and then reach out and open the gate with your hand. There is one such rig here in my town, a round-headlight K5 with what looks like a truck topper rear window attached to the K5 topper. Much nicer than the normal crankup window, IMO.
I should go grab a picture of it someday.

Dave, just cut 2 slits on the middle of the plastic above the tailgate handle to make a flap so you can push your hand through and open the gate. Secure it at the bottom with velcroe do it doesn't flop around when driving
Box on a same-year pickup is wider? That's news to me.
I think the bedrails are the same spacing, but the hardtop is not shaped like a pickup topper, so you can't just swap the window over without major mods. And of course a pickup topper doesn't swap right onto a K5. I have considered before how nice it could be to have a flip-up back window instead of the roll-up style. Would certainly scratch less and in the rain it would keep the inside dryer when open.
that's a good possibility, but rain getting through the cracks may be an issue, or not? Maybe I'll just park on a hill with the tailgate end pointed down!
yeah I guess using a pickup tailgate the box spacing would have to be the same....its the topper that's fubard compared to a pickup cap. I still think a custom frame made to fit the outside of the topper with a piece of polycarbonate or plexiglass would work great.
Now I'm even more interested in that local truck. At least one guy out there has already solved this problem.
weatherstripping kits arrived today...got the pass door all done now, will probably nap for a couple hours when I get home from work in the am, then finish the drivers door, and look at the wiper motor and defroster to see whats up with them, then hit the road by 2pm for St. Ignace.

No matter what upgrades or changes I make, I always want to be able to put doors and a top back on.
Yes, I put my windows in it and new front seals, hope it keeps the rain out!
That was a goal for me as well, I made sure the cage would fit under the top. I did have to cut about 1" off the bottom of the doors though. It will be very welcome if we get some rain on this trip.

We need the current topper owner/operator in a matching pose in front of said monument. In case someone wants it for a scrap book.
