80 Jimmy - The Monkey Paw (Time to finish interior)

Idea with this was to build it robust, and simple, and utilitarian. KISS principal.
Likely as not, a good proper tune up would wake the beast

It's in decent tune, wouldn't have smoked emissions test if it was in bad shape. It's just kinda weak and got a bunch of added weight on it.. 350 is low compression, small bumpstick. But I could probably bump up the timing a few degrees and it wouldn't hurt none.

Might play w/ the carb a bit - but wanted to get an a/f meter first so I can make quantifiable changes first though.

When I still had mine on emissions, it would barely run to pass.
Then I'd bring it home and set the timing back to 14* lead and rejet the carb.
Might be more in the tune than you are givin it credit

It is on my list of things I need to do. I just need to make sure I take good notes on it.

Yeah. I don't miss detuning mine every year for the stupid emissions

Was doing the tuning tango each year on my 67 firebird.. Sucked. Ended up getting it under the classic car registration a couple of years ago. Don't need to anymore.

Hopefully going from 4.11 => 4.56 will help a little in the acceleration dept. But at least I won't be a 2wd poser anylonger. Gotta gather a few more parts and do some reading. Was thinking about attempting this myself - as my first rear regear. 14b and Ford 9" are supposedly the easiest ones to setup, so MAW.

FedEx left something.

You put these in yet?

In a word... No. Ordered some install parts for it from amazon, they sent me the wrong part 2xs. Looks like they were mislabeled from the factory. Need to order from summit this time.

Guess I haven't updated my thread in a while so I should. Not a lot of update, been slow w/ the heat, and I keep getting distracted by other jobs that need to be done.

Built some side panels for the bed.

Got them covered and installed.

Built some brackets

For the new seatbelts

JB Fab twin stick knobs

Wanted to finish the interior before going back to heavier work. Too hot out.
Took about 5lbs of extra wire out of the dash, need to finish putting it back together.

And waiting for @cybrfire to finish the fabricated panels he's been working.

Found some new leaks to fix. Transmission is leaking. Cant tell if it's just a pan, or if it's coming out up at the torque converter. Too big of a mess in there.
Engine oil leak. Have no clue at all where that's coming from.. Possibly rear main.
Brake line leak. Fitting leading to the rear of the truck. I had a hell of a time flaring that line, haven't seen it leak and the last time I started it up, it was dripping steadily. Gonna cut that back replace a short section of line and couple it together. Have a hell of a time w/ those damn flares.

No updates for this. Not a single one. Soon as the temps hit 100+ I seem to loose my give-a-crap... lol Temps are just starting to come back down barely - it's 101 deg as I write this, so may start in again on it soon here.

To Do List...
  • Have a leak in the brake line I had to reflare - goes from the combo valve to the back.
  • Put the dash back together. If someone has a panel where the screw holes aren't cracked for an 80 and it's cheap let me know... Just had to take a huge paycut so money's tight.
  • Put 4.56 gears in the rear end to match the front.
  • Fab up some skid plates and rock sliders to get rid of those chrome tube step things..
  • May move the driver seat a hair fwd and down. I measured out compared to the old seats but you sit into these seats much more - differently. Need to lower and move fwd for better comfort and support. I'm too short for where it all ended up.

Sorry that you have to deal with the pay cut. Now the temperature problem can be cured with a move ! :haha:

Post up when you get some progress!

Was planning a move - was gonna put the house up for sale in prob feb/mar.. not sure at this point. Lost a big customer and with it about half my pay and one of our employees... :-(
