As someone who used to work in tires - He must have been a real idiot to get that far with them to incur that type of damage. Anybody thats good at their job should be able to tell a 16 from a 16.5. Or at least figure it out before they damaged the customers tire. Sorry for your luck.

I don't doubt that one bit, I used these guys to mount all my junk. I asked them if they measured the rim and they looked at me confused :doah:Too bad they didn't have a camera in the garage because the eye witness said he flew through the air when it blew.

OMG Yes, When a tire blows it will rattle everything from the windows to your fillings. Sounds like he got wacked, and I would guess it put him on the floor.

As someone who also used to work with tires, it does seem crazy that he wouldn't have noticed something wasn't right! I kinda feel like i would have asked them to pay for the tire THEY damaged. Glad the guy didnt get more hurt, but the reality is, what do you know? Your just some dude off the street that dropped some stuff off. They are the tire experts.

At the time I felt bad and didn't want any blame to come back on me however in hindsight they probably are liable. It should have been obvious as they aired the tire and the bead was trying to seat.

At the end of the day I paid $50 for that tire so I'll chalk it up as a lesson learned.

WOW crazy. FYI I have those tires on my superduty and they behave a little weird, not bad but weird. The best way I can describe it is that they "slither" down the road. There's not a lot of lateral traction going on in there and no grooving for it to track straight. Once you get used to it its a non-issue but I thought I would give you a heads up. Might be different on something that's not 8000lbs too. With all that said they have let me beat on them with no issues.

And there's nothing cooler than having 5.56 rounds on your sidewall.

Thanks for the heads up, luckily I'm not on the road much unless I'm heading to a trail head. Might even groove these.....for a couple hundred bucks I figured they're worth a shot.

Agreed on the rounds on the sidewall :D

Those 16.5s did look cool though. Oh well.

I've always wondered why they don't stamp the diameter and width somewhere on all wheels. I mean if you look at any tire sidewall, the size is prominently displayed right there for all to see. Seems like it would be a law to put the size of the wheel somewhere on it, even if it was on the inside somewhere that only someone who was mounting a tire on it would see. I'm pretty sure they have to put "Mount only on 16 inch rim. Do not attempt to mount on 16.5 inch rim." on all 16" tires to cover situations like your tire shop found itself in, but it would be nice to know for sure what size the wheel is just by looking at it before you start trying to mount a tire on it. Just saying. At least no one lost an eye.

they are cool rims and look pretty damn good on a square body IMO.

two of the rims actually have a tag with a PN 51-68697, that comes back to a 16x8 with a 8x6.5 pattern on summit

Well now that's interesting. Do they have the lip where the bead of the tire would sit? Most 16.5" wheels don't have that. They're just flat.

yeah but these are not 8", either 10's or 9.75" so I know the sticker is wrong anyway. Just odd.....

It does ramp up near the lip, like a bevel. My buddy has the same rims but his are 16x10's and the outer lip appears to be 3/16" smaller than mine. It's hard to get a perfect measurement on his because they have tires on them.

his truck btw

ZZ502, Hughes 400, NP205, D60/14BFF Detroit/ 456's etc. He's linking the front this winter :D

Wow that's a nice looking one.

Sounds like you have a set of 16x10" wheels to me. I wonder why the tire split like that. Maybe you should try a different tire shop.

Could you snap pic of this sometime, might help out the fellow in the gas tank thread as well.

yep a shock flute :D

I don't have any pics yet since it's not finished but here are some from another CK5 build. My plan is to run the Wraptor anti-wap backbone from DIY4x with the lower shock mounts integrated on the backbone.

Are their any advantages in running the shocks like this compared to the stock setup? why did you go this way? Because of the bazer fuel tank?

I am very interested in your build of this truck as I am going to be using mine in the same fashion as you.

Edit: I see your going to run them on the wraptor. So then I ask whats the reason for that?

The shocks hang down to low on the axle and the way they mount to the frame, it tends to crack. In fact my frame has already cracked and been repaired once. Also by inboarding you increase wheel travel.

I'll be running the wraptor setup to increase strength and I need a anti wrap setup with the longer soft 57's I'm running.

I got the shock mounting idea from muddermilitia's build http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=314071
