86 K5 -"Jacob's monster truck" with a Cummins swap

what I forgot to mention before is you should peen the dowel hole in 3 or 4 spots while you have the front cover off.

Excellent progress. I have the 95' Cummings in my 76' frame and is very nearly running but have not shown any progress yet on the forum. Im interested to see your choice on engine mount design and to see if the cross member you have fits. I had to cut and mod both front members. I dropped down the engine xmember a bit to make room for the massive oil pan. The front one also had to be cut a bit to fit the beast in there. The circa 1000lbs of engine has made my front leafs as flat as they can be. Upgrade time!

looks great! i will keep tabs on all you crazy cummins/blazer guys until i get the time and money to start my own swap

Well ......some updates are long overdue :doah:

I have been getting some stuff done here and there, lately life has just been beyond busy. I haven't mentioned it here, but as of March 3, Jacob will be a big brother :D , so prepping for the new addition has been top priority lately. That combined with almost more work then the business can handle my 60 hour work weeks ( back and forth from day to night shift as well) have not left me much " free" time :dunno:.

I do have the engine here at home now, I have studded , o ringed the head, mild exhaust side porting and will try out the stock manifold which I am in the process of poring as well.
I have also added:
4k GSK and matching 60# valve springs
Timing bumped to 17-17.5 *
024 DV's
Rack plug
Running no fuel plate
Injectors will be here soon, I went with a set of 7x10's from Contagious Diesel
Turbo is still not totally decided on, possibly a custom set up from Engineered Diesel , not sure yet.

I did get my 4500 as well, running a built late model GM unit with a 1 3/8 dodge style input shaft and that will be going through the SouthBend dual disc sprung hub clutch I bought.

After lots of reading and talking with some other swapped in cummins people, I took the advice of "imiceman" and ended up doing some frame beefing, boxing and reinforcing :D.
I am hoping to set the engine in for good next weekend, because with it in, it will keep me motivated even when I have less time to work on it .

I will get some pics up this week and hopefully some of the engine in it's new home next weekend.

I really need to get this thing going because before I know it I will be building another rig for the next child :woot: ( I say child because like Jacob we did not find out the sex) :D

Congrats on the new baby. Also good to hear there is some progress going on.

This is awesome! I love that your building it for your son and that hes out their helpin you!! Way too cool:thumb:

When is thing going to be finished:dunno:

Hi there big brother:D

That's enough outta you  I know how long it takes you to do a simple half-a-motor (4cyl) swap

For everyone else , I have made some ....progress, but honestly , between 4 wheeler race season for Jacob all summer (he has a shelf full of trophies now) and Caroline being born last march, "free" time is tight. I will post up some recent pics tomorrow and since I now acquired another K5 , I think the "blazer bug" has bit me pretty hard again :D

Ok, so I know I have been severly slackin' :doah: but, at least I have done a little bit .

Last ones for now, I got creative with the windstar fans, they are now "worked into" the stock Cummins fan shroud, the attaches to the Cummins radiator I will be using. Not pictured are the coolant and washer tanks that attach onto the shroud as well. I'm happy with it :woot:
