87 K5 "Cashbag"

I've had this blazer for 5 years and finally put a radio in it....Also, my son-in-law had a "cb" laying around collecting dust and gave it to me. After some research, it's a 10 meter General Lee ham radio.

It has a toggle switch on the side of it and I have no idea what it's for.
I also bought a Wilson 5000 antenna for it.

Good looking truck man, I like the stockish aspect to it. Hopefully mine will get there someday

After the run in a dry mud pit, I was able to see the flex and get an idea of any more fender trimming needing to be done.

I already trimmed the front fender at the bumper and have plenty of clearance there. Now, behind the front tire, needs about 1 inch removed. I was able to remove 2" total when all was said and done.

Since the right locking hub wouldn't unlock, I decided that while I was going to replace the old with some warn premiums, I might as well upgrade to the 35 spline outers and rebuild the kingpins.

Warn premiums to match the Yukon 4340 chrome moly stub axles and kingpin rebuild kit.

I didn't get to the kingping rebuild because I'm waiting for the 7/8" hex key/wrench. Maybe by next weekend.

Because of all the grease I didn't take any pics of the upgrade...but there are a few write ups with pictures that I used for reference.

Before I post a couple of pics, I was finally able to get with some minor flexing, I wanted to share a quick story.............

About a month ago my wife noticed a charcoal grill and what looked like a Toyota 4x4 sitting out in this field. We wondered for a while what was going on so 2 weeks ago I decided to see if they had some space that I could use to do some testing on my K5.

That Friday I got off work early and went to see if anyone was home. 3 boys came out , 1 high school and 2 junior high. 2 were brothers. I saw what looked like a 1982 Blazer with a lift and 35's, and asked who the owner was and where they went 4wheeling.

The oldest says it was his and that they just go out back when it rains or they can haul some water out there for the "Mud Pit". I introduced myself and asked if I could use the area for some flexing and check to see if I needed to do any more trimming.

They said it was ok but it was dry...I told them it didn't bother me if it was dry, I just wanted to put this thing in 4 wheel and see what it would do....so to the back we went.

The ruts that were there were made by another K5 that they owned (1 of several) that had 44" mudders. I knew I would bottom out from the deep ruts and me only having 37's so I went across the ruts and got to see that I do need to do more trimming. Not much, but some.

So.....................while we were checking the flex of my K5, one of the kid's phone rings, and it's their mom. Wondering if it was somebody they know that had the same color scheme as mine. The boy said no, and that it was someone else checking their setup. Their mom thought I was stuck because the rear end of my K5 was a little bit up in the air from me going straight down into one of the deep ruts.

Once I was done playing I went up to the house and met their mom...Georgeanne. Very nice lady. She thought it was weird that some 51 year old kid would come out and play in a pit that was dry. But she understood when I told her that my K5 was a virgin!!!!:haha:
This is a family of 4wheelers. The parents buy their kids a K5 for their first vehicle. 5 boys and 1 girl. And all kids old enough to drive has a K5 and they have a couple of K5's for playing.

A Virgin no more

I got off work early today and went back to the dry pit and check out the extra trimming I did along with the 35 spline upgrade and new warn premiums.

Nothing too severe....but I did enjoy putting it in 4Lo and driving this thing up the walls of this small dry pit.

I noticed in your sig that you have zero-rates up front. Instead of trimming more, just move the axle forward. Would help slightly with your approach angle, too.

I thought I mentioned somewhere in this build about moving the axle forward 1" but I couldn't find it anywhere. But that is what I did. Thanks for bringing it up. :waytogo:

I was hoping I didn't have to move it the full 1 1/2" forward but I will if need be. When the tire was up in the fenderwell, I had about 1 to 1 1/2 inches of clearance since the last trim.

Hey dude, 2nd pic from the bottom, thanks for my new phone background:thumb:

Hey, Adam.....glad I could help....little by little I'm getting this K5 out and seeing what it's capable of. Got a ways to go but sure is fun trying. And got to get the passenger side emblem replaced....just noticed it missing.

Its a sweet rig man. I def would love mine to be equal some day, its the perfect mix of everything imo. Strong, capable, and yet still so perdy. Perfect in my books :waytogo:

Finally remembered to put these pics on here for the fuel pump cut-out. And a little reminder from blazinzuk.

Had a piece of sheetmetal that I cut a section off of for the cover. And used 1/4" hex screws to secure it down.....Foam stripping as a gasket.

Nothing major but gives me plenty of room to work and easy to get to.

I love the stance of your truck. The 37s look perfect under it. Can you go over really quick the lift you are running and what products you chose? I see the TC springs in your sig but don't know the brand? Also what body lift did you go with? Would you recommend any changes to what you did?

Thanks for all the help, i'd love it if mine looked like that!
