87 K5 "Cashbag"

TC is the brand of springs (Tuff Country). Offroad Design and DIY4X have 1 inch body lifts.

Thanks, Adam.......It's awesome that you have my k5 on your phone.

Doesn't that make us brothers or something? :D

Merry Christmas

To be flat honest I am going to try and emulate the stance of your truck. I have already ordered 6" lift and 1" body lift. Now all I need to know if the backspacing of your wheels. Please :-)

Any other advice would be great, I think your K5 sits perfectly how they should from the factory.

Great looking rig, its givin me some inspiration to get going on my build again.

Never have been a fan of the HD bumpers on the older trucks but i think the ones your running compliment your K5.

BTW, Congrats on GM of the month!

Looks like I need to pay more attention. Sorry, Adam....I didn't catch the clue till later.

Just doing some steering and transmission cooler installs.

I already had the tranny cooler installed but a small mishap occurred while putting in the power steering cooler.

Made some brackets for the coolers and after installed, I gave them some paint, put everything back together and started the truck to get fluid moving...I notice tranny fluid in three nice puddles under the frontend and wondered what the heck just happened?

Because when I installed the first tranny cooler, I didn't check for clearance and didn't notice that the hood latch was slowly putting a hole in the top of the cooler.

So, I bought another one and moved it down about an inch and gives it plenty of room.

Sorry for the late reply......The backspacing for my wheels is 4.5"

Also, I have a 4" spring lift with 2" blocks in the rear. I'm going to change out the blocks for a shackle flip and since you are going with 6" springs you won't have to deal with any of that.

Installed the np241 skid plate I got from thatK30guy . Just a temp install. I need to prep it and paint it but just wanted to see what it looks like.

I can understand how it would protect the TC to a certain degree, but I have a feeling that what terrain this K5 tackles in the future could push the limits of the protection it was intended for. So now that I have something to build on, I am going to add some more steel and help up the limits.

I need to get this thing tuned for all the small, here and there, upgrades. I know that there wasn't a big jump in changes but I do want this K5 to run to it's full potential or at least as close to that as possible. I'm still using the stock heads but plans are for a set of vortecs and cam so the tuning will help a lot.

K5 shell weatherstripping

Finally got the new weatherstripping on the shell done.

It wasn't hard to do, just time consuming because it was the original weatherstripping from 1987.

When I tried the heat gun to remove it, no matter what setting it was on it would still be too warm and the rubber would tear.

So I used a blunt edged object like a flat head screwdriver, or side of a knife, and worked the outside of the seal toward the truck. And after a few inches of that, it started to peel away fairly easily. I just followed it with a small putty knife as it separated from the truck.

You have to be very careful on the driver side of the cab because the wiring for the cab light runs down the channel to behind the door.

You can see the adhesive that didn't come up with the rubber, and some of the old rubber, that will need to be removed before installing the new.

3 Pieces for the shell

Weatherstripping for the front of the shell. It came off real easy with just a putty knife. And there was very little old rubber left behind. It did tear into 3 sections but no complaints.

The 2 bottom pieces came off pretty much the same way except they were a little more stout than the front piece.

When scraping away the old adhesive, be careful on the back corner, both sides of the shell, there is a rivet.

New weatherstripping is from 1ATony. And it fit like it should.

Thanks 1ATony

Thanks, 1ATony

The fitment of the weatherstripping for the shell fit like it should. And was easy to install.

I have not tried weatherstripping from other companies for my K5 so I can not rate them.

And there is no reason to change now.

Order coming for the side sliding windows and back of the shell.

Thanks again.

I'll also have pics of the shell off with the new weatherstripping to show how it sealed. Maybe this weekend.

Kingpin rebuild

Finally got around to getting the kingpins rebuilt. Got the kit from ORD.

It wasn't hard to do, and really didn't take too long. I took some pics along the way so that added to the time.

And I wanted to start a new page with all the pics. So consider this an official PAD.
