'94 Dodge service truck DD/Tow rig build

MMMM I love me some white on a work truck:thumb:

I agree that a pro job is the way to go on the top of the bed if anything.

Lookin good:D

Stopped by my friend's house to pick up some tube so I got to try out my tube rack. Worked out really well and I didn't impale any cars in front of me so that's always good. :)

I owed him $10 but he needed some shackles I had so I sold him the shackles for $10 and kept his cash... well then while we were talking he heard I needed locks for my service bed and he just so happened to have a full brand new set all keyed the same for his old truck that had a service bed that needed locks. So he sold them to me for $10 and got his cash back. :)

So next up on the list is putting new locks on the service bed and this weekend I get to pull the front end apart and replace an inner tube seal since I have fluid dripping out of the passenger side tube. :(

The axle seal?? Ugh I hate working on dodge front axles, they make them just dandy to take apart....Oh wait I hate workin on them in general :doah:

Now you need some wheels and tires for the thing, the stockers arent looking to great anymore since the rest is all fixed up.

After further research I found out that it's easy to overfill these 60's. I filled it to the fill plug which was a hair under 4 quarts but I found out it's supposed to be about 1/2" below the fill plug so I'm hoping I just have too much fluid in it. I'll check the level, drain if necessary and see what happens.
If it does need to be replaced at least it's the passenger side so from what I can tell I can pull the 4 bolts and drop the unit bearing/hub together and pull the stub shaft. Then pull the CAD cover and the collar then replace the seal there and put it back together.

I know, I really want a set of 305's to help with the highway rpm's and a decent set of wheels. All in time... :D

285's would fit on the factory wheels just fine.

Just sayin'.

Looks good Avery, and don't take this the wrong way, but for some reason if you decide to change directions, I would be interested in buying this '94 from you. I need another service truck.

I doubt you will, but if you did want to go a different direction, just letting you know that you have a buyer for the next 6 months or so.:thumb:

pick up a set of the stock 3rd genners. usually ahve a set of decent 285/305s already installed on them.

i got my set for $250 on my 02.

Oh sure now that I'm getting all the crap fixed now you want it. :D
Just kidding man, but in all honesty I don't ever see myself selling this setup. Once I'm done I'll have a solid truck with no payment, cheap insurance, cheap registration and I'll know all the bugs are worked out. Plus I think you'd have to fight my dad for it, when I'm ready to move up to something bigger I think this drivetrain will go in his '75 F250 Highboy and the dodge body will be sold/scrapped.

I was at the dealership the other day and there was a beautiful '07 dodge on some 35's and it had the stock wheels/tires in the bed. I was tempted to see what he wanted for them but upon further inspection the tires were 265's. I liked the 305/70-16's I had on my old truck so I'll probably go that route on this truck too.

Nice job. The cell pics you sent me last week definitly don't do justice. Since the 42s are on the k5 now I'll have that set of black 16" wheels for you like you old truck. Again, very nice. Ill miss the mexico flag truck:)

We'll see what you say once you see it in person. :D
It's a good 10-15 foot paint job, any closer and you can see it has issues.

To keep things moving along on this truck I'm riveting new locks onto the service bed tonight so I can actually put stuff in there. I got one done to make sure it'll work then after dinner I'll put the other 5 on.

Not much of an update but it's something...

I went out to where I store my trailer and picked it up to make sure all my 7 way trailer wiring was working and my brake controller didn't have any issues. I know it was just an empty trailer but I couldn't even feel it and I could with my old truck so that's promising.

I stopped by Napa on the way back into town and got some Felpro valve cover gaskets and a front axle seal for the passenger side that's leaking.

I started this afternoon by welding in some d-rings in the bed. I hate not having a strong/easy place to place a ratchet strap and figured these would do the trick.

Next I pulled the valve covers off one by one and cleaned everything up and put new gaskets on. I figure it would have been an ideal time to adjust the valves but I didn't know how to do it so that'll have to happen another day. I couldn't put the old crappy cover back on so I did my best with some paint and sand paper then clear coat. :)

Monday the shop is closed so I'll get up bright and early and get started on that front axle seal. Hopefully that goes well. :)

valve set = easy

Int .010" Exh .020"

pull all valve covers. use alternator nut to turn engine. 2 station valve set is by far fastest and easiest. roll engine over until to hit valve overlap on #1 OR #6. ...yes using the Alt nut the engine only turns over backwards with the serp belt thats on it. don't matter here. STOP a valve overlap on #1 or #6 whichever comes first.

---ON valve overlap #6........ do these ones.

#1 - I & E
#2 - I
#3 - E
#4 - I
#5 - E

#6 - I & E

seriously. its easy.

That made no sense to me at all. Sounds easy tho. I need to do it on mine bad. In pretty sure it has 300k without adjusting
