I got it all except for how you figure out when you're getting valve overlap on 1 or 6. Can you visually see when this happens?
 
yes thats the only way to do it is to see it. rolling the engine over slowly...... its the very instant both rocker arms are moving at the same time. it does not happen for long. you have to watch closely. you'll see it when it happens. both rockers will be loaded.

Ok that makes sense. I'll have to add that to the list of stuff to do. :D


Well tonight was a big fat failure. I got the front passenger side unit bearing/rotor assembly yanked out and got the old axle tube seal out through the CAD hole in the back side of the axle tube and now I can't get the new seal to start.
I rigged up the typical all thread puller deal and I still can't get it to work. I have a washer that's perfect, it barely fits in the bore of the tube that's machined for the seal but it's also big enough to cover the lip of the seal all around.
I just can't get it to start, sounds stupid as all get out but I'm just not having any luck. I'm going to see what happens in the morning, maybe a socket might work instead of the washer.
 
Well in the process of doing that stupid axle seal I realized it was time for brakes. I got the driver's side done tonight and I'll do the passenger side tomorrow. My dad isn't going anywhere tomorrow so I can steal his truck to get to work.

I had to go get an 1-11/16" socket to break the nut loose holding the end of the stub shaft in place but otherwise I had everything. I was able to use a brass punch to get the wheel studs out and I just pulled them in with some washers under the lug nut.

Not much in the way of pics but here's the finished product and some pics of the old rotor and pads (well what's left of the pads) :)

I got the passenger side done, only took about 2 hours from the time I fired up the compressor to the time I shut it down and washed my hands so that was pretty good. :D

I took a TON of pictures of every step this time since I used the driver's side as the guinea pig so I'm going to do a little write up for Cummmins Forum. I figure it might be nice to have for someone diving into it for the first time, I know I would have liked to of seen how it all worked before starting.


So I guess next is windshield, dash pad and headliner.... gauges, fuel plate, boost elbow and BHAF. Then I can finally get back to the k10. :woot:
 
I drove over to Pismo today to hang out and watch the Desert Rangers Huckfest 2011 event and since it was just my dad and I we took the dodge. It ran great and pulled the hills like they weren't even there. Coming home on the steep side of Cuesta which is 7% I was doing 75 mph without pushing it too hard.

I got stuck a couple times, one time my dad opened his door and pushed sand out of the way it was so deep. I aired down to 25 psi and it went everywhere I needed to go as well as a 6,700 pound truck with no wheel speed can go. :)

I normally do but I don't drive the k10 anymore, just trailer it so for a day trip it wasn't worth it. We took off around 9:30 drove 150 miles there, played around until dinner then drove 150 miles home so that would have been a hassle with the trailer and such.

It was up in the air friday night but once I found out the Huckfest was this weekend I just had to go check it out. It was pretty awesome until the rangers shut it down.:whistle:

25 psi?? Man we air ours down to about 12 rear and 15 front for the dunes up here and my buddies cummins was havin a little trouble and his tires are wider than yours. That sand out their must be different lol

Nah it's probably the same, I air my k10 into single digits when I go out but we had to drive home and I didn't want to fart around reseating beads as I only had 1 spare with me. :D
I started there and if I continued to have issues I would have dropped them fast but it was chugging along pretty good so I just left it.
 
I just had a small heart attack with an order I placed for some gauges. I got Isspro EGT and Boost gauges with a 2 gauge a-pillar pod. Oh and I tossed a dash mat on for good measure. I figured for $30 it'll look nice compared to my cracked factory dash.

So hopefully those get here sometime this week and I can put them on next weekend.

It's all relative but to me it's expensive. About $275 for the a-pillar pod, the boost and egt gauge. Plus they had 1/2 off the pod and it was still that much.

Yeah I ordered my fuel shut-off solenoid and starter diode through them and was more than happy. I got an e-mail this afternoon that said my gauges and stuff already shipped so it sounds like another smooth transaction.
