Are you asking tube size to compare for aluminum radiator shopping? Because I don't think they set up the same way at all.

not really shopping just continuing my research and education on cooling. just reading some interesting things on tube size. literally just curious at this point. i still need to drive it since switching things. who knows... maybe i fixed the issue....

I don't know to sizes, but generally speaking, copper/brass radiators tend to have smaller tubes and more over them. While aluminum units have larger tubes and less of them.

Like an all aluminum 2 row radiator is comperable to a 4 row brass/copper for the same overall size. I'm sure there are some articles or web posts of direct comparisons between the two, but I'm going off of memory while I scarf down my lunch.

Important clarification.. what's for lunch?

yeah that's what i have been reading , some 2 row aluminum radiators are saying the have 1.5" tubes... that seems crazy to me how could you rapidly cool that much fluid.

like i said im really just curious what the tube diameter inside the stock 454 4 core radiators are. the interwebs really isnt telling me much.

I drove this pig for about 45 mins. Was averaging low 200s even at lights. Highest i saw was 206.

One weird thing... now im smelling a burning smell in the cab, like electrical... could also be trans fluid burning off the exhaust... could be that i used gorilla tape to seal my fan shroud to my radiator just to test a theory.... hmmm... not sure, really smells electrical.

I removed the gorilla tape ill see if that was it.

Did you let magic smoke out?

for anybody following this thread and not the pb thread....
so i compared my fan clutch on this rig to the one on pb and noticed that the one on pb was STIFF and assumed the brand new fan clutch on nightmare must have sucked.

I was mistaken. the fan clutch on PB was seized and it took out my water pump lol, fortunately I had lots of upgraded fans and fan clutches we could stick on the other build. i'm only out a water pump. this also explains a vibration issue and why i have done 3 water pumps in a year on the other truck lol ooops

thought some of you would laugh.

I think i have found an aluminum radiator i want to give a try on this engine, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fbr-fb167/
or the summit version that is very close. its basically the same size as what i have now (as big as i can find that wont take crazy amounts of modifications) it has larger tubes in it, 5/8 vs the stock 1/2"
I was also looking into possibly adding an oil cooler. id just really like this to idle for an hour with a/c in traffic at 210-215 or less. man that would be magical :)

one nice thing here is i can take this giant radiator out of this truck and stick it in my other truck to help keep its temps just a little lower when wheeling with A/C. possible two birds with one stone if the aluminum radiator really helps this truck.

I'm trying to avoid a hood that fits like this one ;)

Mine looked like that put a 2x4 in the middle of it and me and my son hung on each side a little till it was spot on

have any of you guys added an aftermarket oil cooler? thoughts?
if i ran one it would likely need to be added to the passenger side of the radiator because of the giant pusher fan i added, (since i had to do some trimming i don't want to move it)

Could you mount it down low like the transmission cooler? Otherwise you're just defeating the purpose of moving the transcooler away from the radiator.

no more room under there, that trans cooler is massive... i could do a different remote oil cooler with a dedicated fan, that would be a lot of fans on this truck lol
