carps 89 K5 build (how not to put a k5 on a trailer)

Chevy305 I wanted to ask you how you like the centerforce setup and is it worth it. My setup came with a clutch and pressure plate with less than a 1K on it supposedly, but I'm gonna go ahead and go with some new stuff and was wondering if the centerforce was worth the dinero

so far I really like my centerforce! It holds much better than stock and pedal feels smoother and believe it of not lighter, but I think thats only because I had a roasted TO bearing and I mean roasted! I think is worth the moola for it. Plus it doesn't get jumpy in traffic or offroad where the stock one liked to buck a little. Definately centerforce is the way to go!

did some work on Blazer today. Got the 241 out and trying to figure out the best way to drop the tranny by myself. Checked the flange yoke I had on the 241 and though it is 32 spline and will slide on the rear output of the 205, the girth is different and won't work. Also the flange yoke is too short. Went ahead and pulled the factory headers off, except for the drivers side. It's got a damn header bolt that won't let go:mad: and now i've stripped part of the bolt head. Awesome:waytogo::doah:. So look like it might be vice grip time. Also I cut that bracket on the drivers side header to get it off. I know you're probably not supposed to do it, but I know it's a PIA and didnt want to fock with it. Did the same thing on my 86 and never had a problem thru the years, so hopefully I won't now.

Gonna pull the 2in blocks out of the rear, drop the shackles in the front down to 4.5s and remove the shims in the front as well since I'm dropping the shackle length. Gonna be sitting a tad higher in the front I believe but I'm planning on a winch in the distant future so whenever I do that I know it'll pull it down some

Got the 700 out and started getting ready to put the tranny and tcase in tomorrow. Cut the hole out in the floor for the shifter, after I finally got the shifter handle off. It'll only took a pipe wrench to make the cover/cap move. Got the clutch completely in with the bellhousing and hooked up the slave.

the pushrod that came with my slave the PO has looks kind of ghetto fabulous but it works. Looks kind of homemade, but it's solid so I guess I'll keep it. Talked to Jesse @ HAD today and ordered a new flange yoke for the rear output of my 205 so my dshaft from him will work. Gotta drill some new holes for the tcase xmember tomorrow. Hopefully the tranny will go in smoothly:crazy: and I can get them mounted up early so I can drop my blazer a couple inches. Gonna remove the 2in block in the rear and drop the 7.25 front shackles back down to 4.5 and remove the 6* shim. Thinking about getting some 56s for the rear so I can buy some B52s from Kert to put my 52s up front, but truthfully I just wanna get the mofo driving. That and I'm not looking forward to dropping the gas tank to swap the shackle flip mounts for the 56s. That might have been the biggest PIA out of anything I had to do to my K5. Also didn't like the stock shifter for my 205 (looked kind of well beat and mangled) so I looked around and ordered some shiny stainless twin-sticks for it:D. Should be here next week along with Jesse's yoke so I can get it rolling. Had to pick up an O2 sensor bung from Summit today to put the O2 sensor on my new headers as well. All in all it's moving right along and I'll keep it updated as everything moves along

well, I got the 241 boxed up right now. Already promised a guy in Texas that i'd give him first dibs. I kind of need the money and he kind of doesn't have it right now to spend, so it might be going back up for sale. I'll let you know, but there were a couple other people who asked about it previously I gotta give dibs to first though

I looked up some wilwood info...

Looks like the pedal is a 340-1290--$ 67.98
Single port clutch master cylinder - 260-1304 - 53.94

Well, I torn down the front end yesterday evening so my buddy can sent the front gears correctly. I replaced the carrier bearings, pinion bearings, and axle seals on the inside when I first got it, but I've yet to get the gears setup properly (thought I'd feel lucky and just put the same shims back in the way they came out:D) so a good mechanic friend of mine is going to do it for me for some frosty refreshments :D. I try to get him to help me more as he's worked as a GM mechanic for 20yrs, but sometimes it just takes the right motivation.:wink1:

Other than that I'm just waiting on parts to finish up tran/tcase. Got the twin-shifters in and gonna work on the 205 tomorrow. Along with the new clutch fork boot, shifter boot and hold down bracket for the 465. hopefully my package from HAD will be here today so I'll have my output yoke for the 205

did work on the 205 and got it ready, but ran into what I believe is a problem when putting in the sm465. In the second pic you can see the clutch fork doesn't line up with the push pin from the slave cyclinder. I had to pull the clutch fork off the ball stud some in order to get the throw out bearing to line up so the tranny input shaft could go through it. It's still on it and pivots but it doesn't line up with the slave cylinder now. It might work but this doesn't make me comfortable at all. It seems like this clutch fork is too short or something. Think I have any the wrong clutch fork maybe. Anybody got any insight?

Haven't got much more done lately. I've been pretty busy with work. Just got hired at my 4th EMS job :D, probably gonna be very busy now but the checkbook will like it:wink1:. I finally got the tranny and tcase all mounted up. Just gotta cut a little more out of the floor so the twin sticks will work.

My front ends completely tore down right now. My buddy checked it out and evidently my D44 had no preload shims in it period:eek1:. I replaced all the bearings in the thing and just put it back together the same way and I knew something wasn't right when I put it back together, just didn't know what. My friend was a GM mechanic for 20yrs so I figured he'd know, he checked it out and now I can definitely say the PO treated this D44 like s**t:mad:. Ordered all new shims and we're gonna line it up wednesday.

Finally broke down and ordered B52 brackets and the upper shackle mounts. Went this morning and pulled some 56s from the junkyard so it looks like I'll be redoing the suspension :D. Just not looking forward to dropping the gas tank again to switch the shackle brackets. Anybody got a good trick on how to unbolt those brackets without dropping the gas tank??? That might be the biggest PITA I've ever had on my K5 and it would be awesome if somebody knew a trick around doing that:bow::bow:

But anywho, gonna move my 52s out back w/ the add-a-leaf, up front with a zero rate, and the 7.25 shackles for hopefully about 8in of lift. I figure the stock 56s, zero rate, 7.25 shackle, and a 2in block will give me 8in in the rear. But that's where I'm at right now. Probably get started on the suspension next week

Haven't done too awful much to my truck.
-put the headers on and finally got it running after figuring out i had a starter wire pinched:doah:.
-front end is still broken down. Waiting on the B52 kit and shackle frame eye hangers from DIY4X and waiting on my buddy to help me put my front gears back in correctly
-Put the 56s in out back and I think it'll work w/o swapping shackle hangers, but it's sitting alot lower than I want it to. I think it dropped it 5-6 in so I'm gonna add a leaf to the 56 pack and put the over load spring back in the pack upside down. The shackle is @ 53* right now according to my angle finder, but hopefully stiffening the pack so it's not sitting flat will decrease the spring length under weight and bring my shackle angle closer to 45*

Other than that, not too much been.
-Still gotta finish cutting up my floor to mount the twin shifters for the 205.
-still sans front shaft
But all in all I'm slowly moving towards done. I can see the light now, just waiting on parts and waiting on help

throw an add a leaf in the rear pack, that might pick it up a bit and change the shackle angle in favor of a bit more lift.

:haha::haha::haha:I just noticed that. No pun was intended when I made the statement:D I know 14bff were conveted but I guess mine is blessed

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about an add-a-leaf. I figure it'll bring my shackle angle back a little bit by putting a little more arch in the spring. The 56s are sitting about as perfectly flat as you can get right now

Looks like you could swap sides with your shackle hangers. That would put the eye centers a little further back and decrease the shackle angle.

got some new parts in the past couple days. Got the Bilsteins and ford towers from a member on here. Got my B52s and shackle hangars in from Kert:D. Already started grinding off some of the rivets this evening after I finally got the brakes squared away on my S10. Gotta wait on some new center alignment bolts for my 52s to come and then I think I should have everything I need to get it up and running (I'm sure there's some little stuff I forgot about though).

Gotta figure out how to mount these Bilsteins in the rear. Think I might buy an inboarding kit from Kert. Hopefully by Satuday I'll have all my parts in to get it sitting on all fours saturday, but we'll. I'll post up more as I go along
