Well this sucks, my headers came in and I tried to install them but didn’t line up. The flange on the headers were about 1/2” to short in length. Bolt holes didn’t line up. Now I gotta return them and try to order correct ones.

Don't feel bad. This afternoon, I thought the AC in my work truck was getting weak. But it turned out, I neglected to turn the knob all the way to cold, lol.
If I delete this part from the exhaust and cap off the vacuum pet I should be fine right?
Not if you need to smog
I was doing a little research and what I read is, that part only helps warm up the engine quicker and doesn’t have to do with smog, since I have the new headers I don’t need it, as long as I keep the air tubes connected.
I missed The part where it says I could fail the visual inspection. Stupid smog crap. Well guess I’ll see if this part still fits with the new headers if not I’ll be finding a smog shop to pass my truck lol
Its job is to heat the PS manifold quicker, because there was a tin stove around it that the air intake could suck from. Since your new header won't have that, the whole THERMAC system could be removed. You may or may not see issues during cold starts. It might just need a few more minutes before being driven. You may or may not ever see weather like that.
However, the real question is whether or not that is considered an emissions device to the smog police. If so, you would fail visual inspection - unless the header is designed to replace it, as part of its CARB #. I don't see how they can ever truly measure your cold start emissions.

That thermal valve is a bit of an exhaust restriction. I think that you could remove the butterfly and even open the outlet up a little and still pass the "visual" test. It's possible the thing hasn't been working anyway.

Hey all, might be a dumb question but do I need to put ATF in my brand new torque converter before installing. I’ve never installed one and going to do so this coming Saturday?
YES atleast 1 qrt is best so you do not run it dry on start up .
