Deulings 1985 K5 Blazer, --aka Borderline Obnoxious; Silver Lake pics and Vids

Dang man, if my valve covers decide to come in the mail I may. But I do have some stuff goin on sat mornin but ill see what i have in the afternoon.

I'll grab you a voucher this time :)

Lol, thanks but they normally dont run out of any time slots on a normal weekend. We went up saturday morning and they still had alot of every time slot left. Man I wish my stupid shoulder would get better. No way ill be able to be bouncing around on the dunes like this. It hurts when I have to hit the breaks driving down the road:doah:

Crap, one bad thing after another. I took those meds and got up all dizzy and stepped on my laptop and now it says it doesn't detect a hard drive. Ugh now all I have is my stupid iPod

Sure, blame it on the meds! Hopefully your shoulder is better soon.

But why do you need special valve covers just to go to the dunes?

I just need new valve covers period. Those junk chrome ones leaked my royal purple break in oil everywhere. Once it was warmed up it was a drip every 2 seconds or so. Not good. So I'm trading that aluminum set that wouldn't fit for the same set but tall version. Just traded a guy straight up who lives in Texas who had the tall set and wants the short ones. On Ups's tracking site it was in Wyoming mi as of this morning so hopefully they are here today.

These ones didnt fit with my roller rockers, I set them on for a pic, but they were too short.

Doesnt really matter if they come in today though, because I cant bend over to put them in...:doah:Well maybe if I take a bunch of these pills:rolleyes:

i found out i couldnt use my stockers either with the roller rockers.they rubbed a hole right thru the top of them and i had niagra falls and smoke over my headers.got it back home the 2 miles but had lost almost 2 quarts of oil.

Well i didn't use stock covers I used some chrome chevy tall ones instead of the aluminums but they leak. So the tall set of edelbrock covers are in the mail

Valve covers are in. Just gotta be blasted and clear coated. These will definately not have clearance issues with my roller rockers. They are huge!!! I like em. Hopefully Ill get down to the shop tomorrow and blast them and put them on later with my new Felpro valve cover gaskets. Paid $50 for the gaskets so they betta work how they say:woot:

any issues with brackets or AC compressors with valve covers that big?

They will be close to the fitting on the back where the lines go in. If anything ill take the ac lines out for now and use the compresser just as a tension pulley. And if I do want AC down the road ill put a serp system with a york in anyways. Ive never had AC in a vehicle so I think I can handle it in a blazer that you can open mass amounts of windows lol.

Hey you think I will need to use the little spreader things when I bolt them down, or are the bolts good enough. I really dont want these things to leak.

Also I was readin on some threads about roller setups, so it got me on to pricing. I really wish I would have just done it and dropped the extra on one. This setup is $500 or so and I put $100 into mine with lifters. So I really only needed to drop $400 to make it a full roller 408. Im thinking down the road I will do this. This cam setup has a little more exhaust lift but barely, and almost equal on everything else. The term roller motor just sounds so cool :woot:

Compared to the one I put in it

Also I think im gonna order these. I gotta drill out the bolts on the driver side anyways and the chrome plastic junk is peeling off the cheapo Mile Markers I have. These will add a little bling. Or what are some other options of good quality for same price?? I havnt heard any bad news about these one.

And while im at it... lol.
Im looking to replace the quad shocks up front (4 ranchos) with just one shock on either side. I think ill run them to the more vertical mounting position. I have roughly 16 inches from bolt to bolt. So with no lift would around 3 inches either way be good as far as fully extended and fully compressed?

Heres the 4 i settled for.

This one has poly bushings
#1. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SLF-85080/

This one has poly and gas charge
#2. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SJA-N8021/

This one has nothing special, just different brands for opinions
#3. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EXP-322500/

#4. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EXP-921500/

I think ill go with #2 the skyjackers unless someone lets me know other wise that they are bad. They have polly and gas so I think that would be a plus, and only $5 or so more each. I think by eliminating 2 of the 4 shocks up front it will hopefully make the ride a bit better.

None of them. #1 and #3 are the same thing and #2 and #4 are also the same thing. Most generic aftermarket lift shocks are made by the same company.

I'd personally find a nitrogen charged monotube. Those are all twin tubes. Now...where to get one. If you aren't lifting it and want it NOW go to NAPA and get a set of their truck line shocks. Nitrogen charged monotubes with bodies the same size as the aftermarket shocks and they're somewhere in the $30-40 range last I knew.

Otherwise go to www.JCWhitney.com and order some Rough Country Nitro 9000's. $35 or so each and they're nitrogen charged monotubes. Great stuff for the money and WAY better than the generic twin tube lift shocks you mentioned.

I'm running a single shock on each side up front. Running the shock in the "additional" position instead of the standard front position. Seen it mentioned before that it was the position with better angles/travel/etc. Dunno if that's correct but it works fine 2 years later.:dunno:

I'm with AJ on this one, I have those shocks on my truck and they're nice. Either that, save some cash and spring for some Bilsteins.

Yeah...only problem with Bilsteins...they're so damn expensive.

Save and get Warn Premiums. Either that or look for a used set on here. I got a visually used but functionally perfect set from chalet on here for $50.

That is one bad thing about JCWhitney. Their catalog's listing setup can SUCK. When I bought mine for Big Ugly I called Rough Country's tech line and gave them my application and dimensions. They gave me their part number which I then called JCWhitney with and cross referenced I believe. Trying to remember. May have figured out the application...whatever.
I'd say call up JCW and tell them what you want. Been my experience that when their catalog online was confusing they could sort it out over the phone.

Here's Rough Country's application chart:
http://www.roughcountry.com/shocks_chevy.html
Doesn't list the quad shock additional shock but I bet they have an application for it. I'd give them a call.

Adam, for what it's worth, I had the quad shocks from Rough Country on my truck after I put the lift in. The ride was pretty harsh and I drove it like that for about a year and a half. I finally got fed up and took out the small one on each side, and it rides SO much better. I kept the longer shock in and took the shorter one out.

Well what about these monroes??
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MON-32196MM/

They are gas filled monotubes, and with my shock mount distance of roughly 16 inches the 12.500 compressed and 19.875 allow a good 3" plus travel both ways. I think thats a good deal, plus for the price. And just so you guys know I dont have all that much money to sink into this thing so dont think im building a big time wheeler that needs all the top end expensive parts.

But as I found last night looking at my shocks, whoever put the ranchos on it didnt think about travel because the one shock on both sides is almost fully compressed just sitting their:eek1:. So im pretty sure any shock will greatly improve the ride alot:woot:
