Has anyone machined a TH400/NP205 short adapter to mate with a 4L80 and D60 Question

...Here we go

Factory VSS tailhousing, 4L80E/NP205 Adaptor and reclutor ring and sensor. We are having all of the above parts manufactured, they will be availible within the next year. They do exist !

Thanks for the picture Kyle.
The feet are aft of the face,it looks longer than the 400 adapter would it be 4 5/8"?
I think I read somewhere that the ring/sensor from a 241 can be used!?

You can get the gear from the stealership for $30 IIRC. The sensor is a joke at around $100, but was used in alot of trucks 88 and newer, including S-10s. Shouldn't be hard to get a free one at a junkyard. That's what I did....All I have to do is the work on the housing. Still little concerned, but one way to find out....

Update:
Just got a PM from Richard on the 67-72 board and he did confirm its the GM part # I posted above.
Here's the PM I got from Richard:

Just bringing this back from the dead for anyone interested!

This is the 4L80 RV shaft with long splines which would make things much better(shorter) for the 2WD tranny folks and allow using the short input in the 205s round or fiqure 8.

This thing looks just like a TH400 output except its missing the drive gear on the shaft for the governor!!!

if its so close i would like to see comparison specs to see if you could just swap in a 400 shaft. ?

and watch out for front cv to pan clearance problems with it to short.

On the short shaft subject-can you put the short th400 shaft in the 4L80e?

Even though the 4L80e don't have the governor drive, wouldn't the th400 shaft still physically fit?

If using the TH400/205 adapter there should not be any problems with CV/pan clearances. If I remember correctly the 400 and 4L80 are about the same width.

Interchange with 400 outputs in 4L80s:thinking: Hold on a minute be right back!

Heres a TH400 output for NP208/241 and 85-up 205 next to the 4L80 RV.
The IDs and ODs mic`d the same with the only difference being the journal lenght as you can see in the second pic.

You would need to dig into the 4L80 to see if this would make a difference or not! Really not a big score anyways, just save buying the RV @ $111.

I'll have a run of the spacers required to use the Round TH400 NP205 adaptor onto the 4L80E done early next week. Approx ~$149 ea. Billet 6061-T6.
I used a spacing of 0.700" for pan clearance.

I've got a round 400/205 adaptor for sale in case someone wants to buy your spacer but don't have the adaptor itself.
I'm asking $125 for the adaptor plus the ride.

Cool, I've already made myself a couple, but I know there's a demand for them. Now, if you could only produce a stand alone controller for the 4L80 at a reasonable price-like under $500

Stand alone, as in remove the engine from the equation, or the VSS problem ?

Our new VSS tailhousings for the 205 will solve the 2nd, I'll look into the controllers later in the year. We're moving into the later model swaps now as thy're becoming more and more popular.

need custom chip. and tps signal/raw tach signal/temp signal/map signal/vss signal. this is all that is needed to keep full electric tranny.

need the stock style round adaptor from the 241-up cases. then figure out shaft length and redrill front face of the 203 for roud 6 bolt pattern. easy to do some have done it hear. then this will help clear the front cv head on the tcase to tranny pan clearence problem as the range box is the spacer now.

Thanks for the reply sweetK30. I priced that adapter in my local yards here in MT, but no one has them, $125ish if they did. I was hoping the NWF guy would jump in on my question too. I saw on NWF site they have the 400 to 6 round adapters, which if I read this post correctly, should fit when milled 20 thou or so and will clear the pan.

Does anyone know how many lengths of 32 spline shafts were available on the 203s?

Am I still in the spirit of this thread or should I start a new one?

The NP203 Input is going to be too short using the TH400/NP205 adaptor, as this adaptor is designed around the long later model 205 input gear. You need to use the 4L80E -> NP241 Adaptor for correct spline enagement, then re-drill the front face of the NP203 range box to match.

The 4L80E/NVG241 adaptor will be on all 4x4 models excluding those that had the NP205. I'll have to check if you can use a TH400/NP208/NVG241 and mill the spigot.

Hey Kyle thanks for making that adapter for me, I will be sure to get the pictures posted of how everything worked out once I get it all installed next week.
