Howdiy's halfassed 4 link

I don't know if only 340 bucks would do that, maybe a few more zero's :haha:

It should be pretty nice with the 52's out front with the rear 4 link though :D

I also had to revise my numbers, I never read the part were the distance apart is half the total length. The numbers still check out nicely though

Hey man,
where did you get that calculation spreadsheet that works in open office? I've been looking for something similar for a project I'm sitting in on.

I'm running Open Office, as windows just brings the suck to me.

I may try to do crossmembers this week

I'm going to get the rest of the parts when my ebay auctions end in 2 days

I think I've found the bronco coils I need.

I passed some 16" air shocks for only 300 bucks shipped new, They just won't work for me :(

If anyone wants them just post here, I haven't told him I don't want them yet

Sorry to hijack, but i've got a question. I've seen a lot of builds where people head straight for the 3.00" ballistic behemoth joint and it seems like complete overkill. I've also seen alot of builds where people use 7/8" heims and are just fine. is there any type of strength list comparing joints so that people can make an informed decision on link ends? ....hijack off.

Not a hi-jack at all

I am just using them since I'm welding them on so they need to be at least as wide as the link material I'm using.

It's also only 40 bucks more expensive for them and they are way beefier :D

Usually people don't use 7/8" for lowers but on the uppers they should up fine but not on the lowers.

I've never seen any chart as a far as including ballistic joints but I have seen a heim joint chart and the 7/8" joints are significantly stronger than the 3/4"

oh yeah, what bronco coils are you going to use?

I believe they are 3.5". I haven't bought them yet but they are 21" overall length and have a rate of ~300 #'s

I went with the Ballistic joints because they're super stout, not super expensive, they last a long time and they're rebuildable (for ~$10 a joint).

IME heims, even good ones, don't last long in a link suspension setup before they start getting loose and making noise.

Also, as a general rule, the more overkill the joint is the longer it will last which in turn makes some of that upfront cost pay off in the end.

Sorry about that, I told him I was passing them up earlier today.

They were on pirate

I'm definitely going with Ballistic's but I'm torn between 2.63" and 3.00":dunno:. I have the privilege of living in Tucson, so i took a drive over to Ballistic so that i could see some stuff in person and I definitely thought both the 2.63 and 3.00 were overkill! that of course is not a problem, but I'm wondering if I would be fine using just the 2.63's. BTW, the quality that i saw when i was there simply amazed me!

dito here. I would rather do it once and be done vs just enough and have breakage. So what if they are 1.5X more, when you replace a smaller joint after it brakes your more $$4 plus repairing whatever else breaks as a result.

Roughly made the crossmembers today

All 1/4"

And it looks like ballistic is having an additional 10% of sale today.

You can see the upper crossmember it's right under the leaf spring hangers

My uppers will be short but I think I make the numbers work. They will be around 60-65% the length of my uppers

I finally ordered my ballistic parts today, I was going to try and get 3/4" holes in some tabs and leave the others standard sized but it was a PITA so I didn't get any tabs. I'll have to make all of my own, but it shouldn't be too hard, besides the 3/4" holes, I'll just drill them at the machine shop.

I got 15% off so that saved a ton also. I have more money left over now.

I have these

And 4 of these on the way

i was thinkin about this thread the other day. glad to see some progress

My rubber springs to use as bump stops and my adjustable upper link mount. I still need to cut it in half and drill the rest of the holes .

I also have an idea for a rear axle truss that should look awesome.

My truss Idea

The green piece is 5/8"x3" plate, the blue will be 3/8"x2.5", and the red will be thinner sheet metal that I can dimple die. Maybe 1/8", I'll see what I can find.

But I realized I have to put my coil/link mount brackets on also. So this Idea could be an epic fail.

It's pretty much this, I just found this pic searching at pirate.

And I'm posting this pic here so I don't have to keep searching for it
