If you were going to build a small tube buggy....

You'll be over 2000 pounds with one tons and military wheels and tires easily.

You are probably right (was hoping to not do a 60 up front if possible, that would save a little weight)

I think i could be under 3k though. Bretts rig is 4500 lbs with him in it and a full tank..... That thing is pretty damn huge....

Hopefully Brett can actually hit some rocks with us at bundy :thumb:

Looking at weights on pirate. I doubt you will be under 3k. Unless you run yota axles and a small alumalumin block motor. I've seens some pretty small moonbuggys thay weigh 2500

a friend of mine had a home made tube buddy on yota axles with a suzuki engine/trans/cases. 8gal fuel tank, fox air shocks and minimal panels it was 2400 with him in it.

if i were building a small tube buggy i'd use a GM V6 with an automatic trans, np241 and some 1 tons..

I second the motion for using yota axles. Plenty strong enough for 37's. Added bonus of a dropout carrier.

Either yota or 9" axles. Search around for yota centers with Dana 44 outers for full width axles. Lightweight buggys don't need one tons. Maybe even a Chevy 4.3 with a turbo like dune guys run. Even a 22re with boost is fun if you keep your weight down everywhere else.

idk if you guys follow golden coast customs at all... But i REALLY love the hell out of this rig...

I actually thought this was a fwd motor situation, but further digging results in this...

Can you just turn it all around and make the axles turn the correct way? My brain isnt comprehending how this would work....

Custom axles tubes and shafts would be needed... But... Would it really be all that hard to do is the question? The 1 seater idea would be awesome if i could package it into somehting this small

They run the axles upside down, so that they rotate the opposite direction.

So that is a plausible idea? Or are you losing strength? Would that mean you are putting power to the coast side of the gears?

Also im not sold on the 3 link panhard front and rear. If im doing hydro steering I would like to do full triangulated 4 links and get rid of that goofy side to side movement...

But that may be why they didnt do it, having the axles offset and interfering with link setups...

But imo with some safety hoops, id have no issue running it all in the middle with drive shaft in between my legs...

What id like to do is take a 3.8L v6 setup and turn it sideways... No tcas and all time 4x4.

But would that be strong enough? I could gear the axle way high. The thing doesnt need to go 80 mph, a 40 mph top speed would be just fine....

There is a guy locally that has a hookup on brand new 3.8 engines for around $1000 with harness and computer..

Haha awesome

Dang, everybody is so against it lol. I thought it'd be a sweet rig to build under $4-$5k.

I like this one. Honda engine and trans... I think it could be shorter though.

Why shorter? I like the "medium" wheelbase on this.

Cool idea, but you'd have to weld the transaxle diff to lock the axle shafts axa drive shafts in this case.
