Well the radio was attached to a transmission so I think he still came out on top on that one
Those darn sm465 powered radios.
I figured the radio was in front of the sm465, providing the power.
So...radio-powered-sm465.
I went wheeling with the usual guys this weekend.
If any of you ever get the chance to hit Rausch Creek you need to. The more we wheel here, the better it gets. 496brian, I want to see you out here this fall.
I didn't take too many pictures on this trip, but I'm sure a bunch will surface on Facebook in the next couple weeks.
I did manage to tear up my rear bumper so that will probably be my next project. I'm also now leaking diesel so I'll hopefully be stepping up to a 31 gallon tank.
I'm also hitting my crossover steering link on my engine crossmember.
I'm still loving the maggiolina. I was surprised I got it through all the tight trails unscathed.
I'm not as happy with the MTRs as I was initially. They do perform well on and off road, but they aren't quite what I expected from a durability standpoint. I'm getting the sidewall bubble/ split warrantied from my last trip with the overlandy people. After this trip to Rausch, they have a half dozen decent slices in them. I may have been running with too little air pressure the first day, but my tsls took what I consider a ton of abuse and never complained. The tread wear on the MTRs is also very noticeable after only around 2000 miles. When the time comes to buy another set, I'll be going back to a more rugged tire.

Comparing a radial mud tire to an offroad tire is kind of like apples and oranges you know?
Isn't the MTR with kevlar supposed to be an offroad tire?
It's a radial mud tire. It's meant to be a road tire that can do good offroad.
A TSL is an offroad tire. It's round and spins so it will allow you to drive on the road when you aren't using it to claw around offroad.

Yea running a true offroad tire on pavement will wear it out faster.
On another note, how do you like the rooftop tent? I'm sure its better then camping on the ground at Rausch. Hard to find a smooth piece of grass there.

I bought my tsls used and put 10,000 miles on them. They still have useable tread. Imo I'm comparing the mtr wear to a true off-road tire, and I'm expecting it to be worse in the long run. I'll make sure to update.
My back loves the mattress. It was definitely the right move for my last overland trip, and I'll be spending quite a few nights in it during the month of July. I really like leaving my sleeping bag in, and setup is way easier than a standard tent.
Current career uncertanties may have me actively selling my K5 soon.
Or, things could take a complete 180 and I'll be tearing it down for an LS swap and x-over steering.
So....

I just sketched this while drinking a beer so any input would help.
The sides are going to wrap around up to the wheel wells and the quarters will be cut just below the lights on the upper trim line ish area of some k5s.
I know it'd be tough to hit the angle of the spindle correctly for the tire to be upright when it hits the ground. I don't know how to do that math.
If it's at a 45% angle, the tire should end up as far down as it is up with a 180% spin around the spindle?
So if I'm running a 35 inch tire and it starts 35 inches above the point where it rotates, it should end up 35 inches below that point?

Do you have an extra 10 bolt to scavenge a spindle and hub?
That sounds like work and a big gaudy looking thing..
Liquid Iron industries has $49 spindle kits
I think someone on here used one. The locking hub lets you lock it at different spots. The spare parts would also be nice.
How does that work? Do you also need to chop down a stub shaft and weld it to the bumper?
