My 5.3 swap thread!

Just had to drive it up and down the street one more time. Giddy with excitement! I can tell you already how much better the power feels then my fudged up 350! Anyway videoS up in a few!

I must of missed the part about how u hooked up the throttle cable, would u let me know in detail how u did it.....b.t.w. I just got my 5.3 delivered. Pretty stoked

Just added up my receipts. I'm at $1714.47 not including gas and things I already had like electrical connectors. About the throttle cable... I'll upload a pic in a sec but as of yet It's still temporary setup using the original 90 cable and a little, yep, bailing wire... Works really well actually! Still haven't fournd a source for the new cable but I plan on using one off a 97 Chevy pickup. I hear that a lot of them will work. I plan on just taking my cable to the junkyard and finding one that will work.

Damn I wish that was all I spent on mine.

Yea but i wish i could spend on mine the way you have on yours! My dad bought this truck new so a full resto is in its future. So it will get the same amount of money spent on it in the end. I just cant do it in one swoop like you did. Still got my fingers crossed for paint next year! I was about to say that i have only had it for a few years, but now that i think about it, i think i have it for over 8 years! :eek1: Wild.

I had read somewhere a 90s camaro cable for a TPI set up would work. But that's just internet blabber

Yea i have read that too. Also 97 trucks, 03 tahoe, 00 S10 etc etc... Pretty certain that i can do like i said and just browse the junk yard for one that will work. Got $10 that says one out of something totaly random like an 89 celebrity would work.

Sometimes I think I just need to be put on a budget to control myself.:haha::haha:

Oh Teck, knowing you, you would probably just blow it out of the water anyway! But at least maybe it would keep you a little more under control.

$1700 isn't bad at all, I'm much higher but I spent more on some things that I see you skipped over. But either way, bet you're loving the power!

Well all i have driven so far is about 250 yards! But what im mostly happy about is that it idles right!!! Im honestly a little dissapointed at my total so far. I was really hoping to spend no more than $1700 completely on the road... Oh well. Its pretty close! Next up is getting the air intake tube and fabbing up a mount for the air box. Then, i think just drive it while i do all the other little stuff here and there.

Nice job! I am sure it feels good to be driving it down the road.

Also, i decided im just going to drill/tap the water pump for the dang little coolant line. I just dont like the way it has to run other ways. And actually i might just do the t-stat housing so incase i f up, its not too big of deal.

Started playing with the intake tube/ air box setup. This is approximately how it will end up. Just gotta pic up my metal and start fabbin!

Did some running around this morning and picked up my new thermostat, 1/8th pipe tap, "R" drill bit, brass fitting, cap for the outlet on the radiator, as well as the metal to fab the air box mount. So, as soon as all of this is done I will be officially "done" with the swap! With the exception of getting my exhaust done at a muffler shop.
