My 86 K5 build

Retubing is cheap. The money is in the wear parts (u-joints, slips shafts, yokes).

Very true, that is why I have gone back and forth right now on it. But with my current tires it works just fine, so I will leave it alone. When I go to a bigger tire, I will see how it looks and possibly start moving the rear and then retube the rear shaft...time will tell.

This has not been my experience. You can pick up a lifetime warranty 1350 ujoint for $15. Northern driveline sells weld in d shaft yokes for $20, and slip shaft for $60 for the good sized stuff. Retubing a shaft would be much more than that. Cutting out the yokes (and doing it good enough to keep them reusable), new large diameter .120 wall tubing (his shaft is dom), and rewelding it with a balance will be much more than that. I had a shaft retubed, with a replacement yoke, at a d shaft shop at a good price of just over $150 (and that was the best price between 4 different shops). He paid good money for that rear shaft (tom woods), so the advantage of moving the axle back an inch or two does not outweigh the costs.

Ps, he doesn't need to move his axle rearward to fit 42's. They will bolt on and fully flex as is.

Got my new (to me) front driveshaft in. I bought it off one of my buddies Craig (icehouse) who lives just down the road from me. He is building a bad a 74 k5 that's going to be linked front and rear (if you haven't seen his build thread, check it out. That thing is going to be freaking sick). It's a full 1350 cv with about a 13 in slip in it for a fantastic deal. So at the same time I got a 1350 yoke for the d60.

Do you have an idea how many inches of that slip you're using?

I am not sure exactly how much slip is used during articulation. My front shaft has between 11 and 12 inches of slip total. If I had to guess I think I use about 3 to 4 inches throughout the suspension travel, but that is just a guess

What slip yokes are you using?

Are you asking where they came from? Or?

I think I put this in my thread a while ago, but I purchased that front shaft off a buddy. He told me a local shop built it for him and they actually used Dodge joints cause they have a lot of clearance in stock form....but that is just what I remember from my conversation when I purchased it off him

We didn't got to EJS, but decided to still go out wheeling as a family for Easter this year. Went to Chinaman Gulch trail in Buena Vista. Actually showed up yesterday, got a hotel, had fun in the small town, then went wheeling all day today. All in all, it was a fantastic weekend that was about as much fun as you can get. My rig ran awesome all day and crawled up anything I pointed it at...can't ask more than that!

Here are a bunch of random pics we got....all in all couldn't have asked for better weather or a better day!

Very nice! That last shot is my favorite. I very much love the fact that your wheeling with car seats.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Haha, that's how I roll :haha:. My oldest is 3, my youngest is 2 (14 months apart) and my wife is due in October . I like kids

Nice pictures sir:waytogo:

I'll be joining you with the 2 carseats soon. Also with 2 boys.

I know our trucks look a lot alike, but man......your's just looks way better on the trails then mine does:bow:

Maybe it's just the background...

Man that looks like an awesome time, I love the Buena Vista area. One of my favorite places to ride, wheel, explore, and camp.

Yeah, at least 50% is the background, but I am kinda bias too and think the blazer trumps everything else in the pic's :haha:

Yeah, that whole valley is some of the most beautiful country. Couple that with an awesome trail like Chinaman Gulch and it's a good equation for fun :D

Ditto. That's one place I would consider buying a cabin to make it a regular weekend/vacation destination. So much to see and do there. Some of my favorite trails are there; Chinaman, Grizzly Lake, and Iron Chest.

Wish my parents still lived in BV; we got down there a lot more when they did.

Either one of you guys ever do some rafting down there? I would like to raft down there this summer. And wondered how it was.

Little update. Picked up a cable shifter for my NP241 from JB Custom Fab. Ended up mounting it to my platform I built for my art carr tranny shifter.

Mounting it like I did changes the direction of the stick from the factory. All the way back like you see is 2HI, and all the way forward is 4LO

Mount supplied in the kit

It shifts real good from 2HI to 4HI to N to 4LO, it's just a little tough getting it out of 4LO. I think I will try and adjust it a little to see if I can help that. I will also just make a simple plate to cover the hole now from where the factory shifter was.

I have, we used Noah's Ark. Pretty well run outfit. That year was big water and we had a blast. I have been rafting in a few places and that was the best. They also offer different levels depending on what kind of a trip you want.
