One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

So, I’ve had my head down in the edit bay for a little over two months. The results of that project will start to roll out next next week.

Y’all here understand this best, but this is how I’ve spent my “spare time” for the last year. While the product of those efforts is intended for wide distribution, its production was enabled by you folks here.

From encouragement to guidance to feedback, it’s all valuable and deeply appreciated.

Looking forward to the series. Should be great!

Can't wait to check this thing out in moab. I'm afraid to park next to you with my crap.
Our crap will look perfectly normal side by side. Except for the paint. I’m way ahead on what the cool kids call “patina.” I call it crappy clear coat beaten into submission by the Texas sun.

Now, for tomorrow:

This junk will be on the tubes, the grams, and the books. You’re about to be inundated with these two nerds talking about trucks…

…a lot.

Looking forward to it!

Are those going to be 1 KG rated.
2” .250 wall main rail? I think they’ll meet the standard.
Tomorrow is my wedding anniversary but I'll still be watching!! :waytogo:
At dinner, 5:59 PM CT

*checks watch*

”Honey, I need to go use the restroom…for 21 minutes.”

It’s been a busy week, but I finally got to start on the Rev1 sliders. 1-5/8x.134 kickers and 2x.250 main rails. Overbuilt is just right.

My material handling “stands.”

Bend order:
45* at 6”
5* at 45”
85* at 71-1/2”

I’m pretty excited to weld these joints. Thick stuff is a lot of fun, and I need a break from sheet metal.66B49EA9-D244-4DC2-A39A-72D78751CB5D.jpeg

Slider build
Slider mounting
Tidy up last details on wiring
New PS pump
Transfer case skid
Bump crossmember
Front spring hanger crossmember
Front beating check
Grease hubs/figure out why they’re hard to engage

…and I’m sure there’s something I’m forgetting.

What are you bending the 1/4 wall with?

Plus, my bender doesn’t have the stones for 2”x.250. I max out at .134, so that’s 100% of the car and 98% of the truck.

Pretty sure these will settle the rear some more, and the front might need a smidge more preload.

David
Affirmative. My bender is the same. I did manage to kink some 1.5” .250 for a track bar, but we heated it up first.
