PLAN B

This build was 2 parts 1 i have a truck I made to pretty to wheel so I'm building an ugly one I can actually enjoy. And 2. My cousin has been trying to join us for blazer bash but his truck wont be ready so we are surprising him with this one
Any of you fine people going to fullsize invasion or easter jeep safari this year?

Ok so this is a new thing.
I was going to the full size invasion in 2002 or 2003 in Ouray Colorado, it was the 50th anniversary of the Kaiser jeep.
But then my wagoneer started starving for fuel on the highway and I turned around and called it.
A few months later I bought a k5 and signed up with ck5 and rest was history

Anyone have a good suggestion for how to carry a spare tire? If I want to have my rear seat in the truck i cant really stick it in the back, i think hanging it off the rear would get in the way and throwing it on the roof would add weight to the top.... hmmm now what?

Just run a common size and someone will have a spare :pimp:

Mine is standing up inside behind my rear seat. I have a cross brace for my shock mounts that it is strapped to. Yes it does block rear view a little but I've got no window mounted mirror anyway lol. It does kill cargo room and some day I'll do a swing out carrier off my rear bumper. Gotta compromise somewhere. Mine is only a little 35 also.

it that possible with a 40 with the top on?

IMO in some situations you don't really need a spare with you in the rig.
1) Are your tires old and cracked?
2) How far is your tow rig or camp from where you're wheeling, can you keep a spare there?
3) Does a buddy carry one in a similar size?
4) Do you carry an air source and plug kits?
5) Are you wheeling in sharp rocks where punctures are common?

My last few trips I haven't carried one but I have newer tires, carry air and plugs kits and two of the trips Zak had a spare 42 with him.

It won't fit laying down in the back? I have a back seat and lay down my spare 42 behind the seat. Then have the cheap husky bags from home depot filled with tools and parts and other gear stacked around and on the tire.

Almost new 40s, with the back seat in i dont think it will fit laying down. I cant imagine it would fit standing up with the top on... hmmmm i will need to play with it. If im with the ck5 group i dont carry a spare, with the jeep group i kinda want to. Or at least have one in camp. I may just go with a plug kit and on board air and hope i dont have issues. I have never blown a tire in moab but who knows....

Need a long bed, all the room in the world... That being said I had to borrow tools because I left them at camp during the big adventure when I pulled a shock apart from your group.

There was a guy on here that used to carry a tube to put in the tire for a trail fix. Of course you need beadlocks to make it work.

There are a lot of people who wheel without a spare, some saying they have new tires, some saying they can borrow one if needed. I never thought this was acceptable. Every truck off road should have a full sized spare period. If you happened to have a bad day and got two flats then someone will surely help out. Borrowing a spare should never be plan A.
I have been measuring and with a stock tailgate a 40" wont fit laying down. I can get a 38" in mine with the truck tailgate and soft top with the stock seat. I think you can get a 40" in if you rework the seat brackets to gain a few inches. A 40" will stand up with a soft top, not sure about a hardtop. I want my spare inside for weight distribution but it sure does take up a lot of space.

Well nobody said it was plan A, look at the title. :pimp:

Really easy... Front mount.
