Project 82 TCBF -10.13.9 - progress!!!

anyone happen to know a part number to the correct bracket I need, as far as a tv cable/throttle cable mount, and the bracket that goes on the throttle plate?

I would call and talk to BTO. Chris Gardner is very knowledgable. He can probably point you in the right direction, or at least recommend an application or adaptation!

been a WHILE since I've updated this, and for good reason. I haven't done a focking thing. :o:o:o:o

but, that will change. I have the next 4 days off from work, and I'm anxious to get back to work on this thing.

Thanks to Randy (aychdee) I'm one step closer!

So after a trip to a few stores getting some hardware/parts/etc, we finally got to work. I will say this. It felt pretty good working on my truck for the first time in over a month! :D:D:D

To start we put the fuel cell together. In case any of you didn't know this, this was a complete BEOTCH! Good thing my buddy was down, because there was NO WAY my focking paws were getting into that filler neck:crazy::haha:

so, here it sits, some new fittings, and new hardware on the filler ring and sending unit. thanks again randy (aychdee)

then I got the q jet and fan installed that I got from steven (phreddei166), thanks again!

yes I did use those push through the rad. type mounts  I talked with the guy at Indy (the local speed shop) and he said as long as you don't put them on super tight and don't give them a real good yank (which he said is what most people do, and why they have a bad rep.) then you'll be just fine.

shortly after hooking up the q jet, we realized there was something wrong with the tv cable. I popped the end on the stud on the throttle arm (on the carb, which I'm pretty sure I need to get an adapter of some sort for it be have the correct geometry). I went and did the whole 'push the d button in, full throttle it,let it click out, and you should be good' method. I noticed after I let go and it was no long on full throttle, the tv cable was still pulled WAY out. Well, convinced that I wasn't going to drop the pan on this focking thing, I went ahead and pulled the end of the tv cable housing off the tranny. Low and behold, the the thing wasn't even hooked up :doah:so after searching the web for the correct instructions, i found out what I had overlooked when I originally installed it, and that was that you had to keep slight pressure on the other end of the cable while pushing the end into the transmission case. 15 minutes later we were back in business and all is well!

then, after we were told twice by my stepdad that rain was to be expected in an hour or so (which it never ended up doing, just sprinkling off an on a few times) we tackled the rear window. Yeah we could've done something else that was more related to getting the engine running, but I wanted to get the projects done that required two people, because it's not often I can get someone to give me a hand on the rig :wink1:

so, an hour and a half later, we went from this

(solid window, RIP Grampa)

and that was it for yesterday, other than a few miscellaneous other things.

now, as soon as it's late enough to get some tunes playing out in the driveway, I'll be back at it again!

any suggestions on where/how to mount the fuel cell? Would like to make it as discreet as possible, if possible. Makes it a little tricky having the fill on the top, though....TIA!

It turns over!!! :D

Why does this make me happy? Well....1) I know the motor isn't seized after sitting for over a year since I built it  2) The fact that it turns over means that the starter/ignition/remote solenoid part of the wiring is setup right :D

Today is my last day of vaca by the way :doah:I ended up dicking around half the day tuesday and yesterday morning with our focking dryer, then half the afternoon yesterday at the junk yard. It took us like 3 hours to figure out all the mortor wiring, and the starter. I'm running the remote solenoid setup (like what ryoken's got), but I didn't put the jumper on the solenoid at the starter from the battery lug to the lug on the solenoid where the trigger wire would normally go, and all it would do with the key turned is click at the remote solenoid. We figured it out, after my buddy held a screw driver between the two lugs on the starter solenoid and I turned the key, that it was problem. So, threw a jumper in there, and she turned over :D

So today the fuel pump and regulator gets intsalled, run the rest of the fuel line to the rear of the truck, mount the fuel cell on the bed, hook that up, pour in fuel, go store hopping, hoping someone's got those stupid plugs (maybe in the help section?, I already checked my best local junk yard, which just sold and the keys are being handed over today )

So like I say, that's the only thing that could stop me, that....and the rain we're supposed to get

I just have one question, if I do get this thing to start today (assuming the timing isn't WAY off) because of the fact that the cam isn't broken in yet, is it ok to run the motor for 30-60 seconds?

Not real positive on that one, would be better if Scott would chime in. However, I don't think it would kill it for a short run of up to 30 seconds to make sure you have oil pressure and other things. I would assume you could run it for a couple of minutes to get the initial timing set for cam break-in.

That would be the man for this, for sure. PM going his way...I don't think I'll be able to do the timing today (this will be my first time, need some fockchop like Randy (aychdee) to come show me what I'm doing :p: but if I can turn it over and hear it run for 10 second, I'll be giddy like a school girl :D
