@Greg72 the stripped hole is in the door not the a pillar.Steve,
You can't cut new threads into a stripped hole.... it's already too large.
The best you can do is figure out the existing thread size, then drill and tap a new fine-thread hole one size large and buy a bolt to match....
But since that's not "stock"... you would need to cut an access hole from the inside of that A-pillar and carefully drill out the welds that hold the cagenut assembly and remove it. You can then repair that thread properly (and in the proper thread size) and weld it back in place.
I have some details here that show what the plate looks like. (post 119)

If you read a few posts on either side of that, you will see where you have to cut for access as well.

I was thinking of that if I can get to it, the door will get pulled off for paint but after that probably not.I can't remember if it's possible, but can you just put a nut on the inside of the door? I know that isn't correct, but lots less hassle. Are you going to pull that bolt ever again? I would make that the deciding factor.
I didn't suggest welding in a nut. Just lock it down once the door is in position. Which could be done after paint is finalized. It's a caged nut that needs to be able to slide vertically and horizontally. You can't just weld in a fixed-position nut.

I talked to my metal guy yesterday, he suggested to drill out the nut and then use a longer bolt with new nut and then to weld the new nut to the old one.

Finished sanding all the paint drips off from the previous owner, plan on re-rattle canning the whole thing tomorrow, just want to make it presentable again.
Didn't get a chance to paint it, working on the new build thread software and family coming into town. How'd it turn out?
