Richard's Funky Fire Truck

Skimmed the thread real quick. Congrats on the new purchase! I swear if you re-paint it, I will personally drive to Bahhhston and kick you in the taint!!!

Anyways, here's what my m1009 looked like with 4" Tuff Country HD springs up front and 37" tires. I clipped the back corners of the fenders a little bit. I would think that you would probably want to add a 1" zero-rate or maybe do a body lift.

I would run 2" spacers and use some H1 wheels with the 37s. They just look soooo good! Look up Feltz Tire on Facebook. He has really good prices on take off h1 wheels & tires, better than Trailworthy. He can get the run flats too if you really wanted them. You will have to go to Trail worthy though to get the new O-rings

I totally forgot that used to be your truck when I saw you this summer. :doah:

I knew the truck but I had no idea it was you.

I'd like to avoid the added weight and complication of h1s. I was also hoping to be cool enough to join the hubcap club.

Are there hubcaps with blue bow ties?

The weight of the H1's makes them silly to run for the purpose of looks. No hub caps that I know of with blue bow ties, but it's just paint.

If you do go with 16.5" wheels, make sure to find the GM 16.5" steel wheels with the safety beads.

Martin

Skip the 16.5" wheels. Get a wheel size that you can actually find new tires for. I'm kinda digging the new 2500 base wheels with center caps, I think they'd look great on square body:

Aren't the offsets way off?

I have 16s right now. I imagine I'll find something on Craigslist cheap that'll work. I don't think 16 is a dying size yet, but maybe I'm mistaken.

The offset does look off.....

Nothing wrong with 16's, lots of tire options. Keep an eye open for some H2 takeoffs :D

Towed this to my buddy's house tonight. I love how this truck tows.

I don't know why I need separate posts tonight...

The Plans:

At least 37 inch tires to get the rpms down

You don't need 37" tires to get engine speed down. You could utilize a certain interesting invention that more modern vehicles utilize. A transmission with more than 3 speeds. Amazing how much difference that can make.

Toward the beginning of the thread, you said you wanted to lower engine speeds by switching to larger tires. I was reminding you that your proposed 5-speed swap would significantly change your cruising engine speed vs. the 3-speed that you have now (.73 O/D for an NV3500, IIRC).

So, if Martin talks you into a tranny swap, you may wind up with decent cruising engine speed without increasing tire size.

Also, what rims do you have? They look like standard 8-lug 16" rims with the ridge for hubcaps. And in 2 different colors? I'm surprised Martin hasn't mentioned this already...

If so, you could join the hubcap club rather readily. :D

I was just goofing. I hear what your saying. A tranny swap is definitely out of the question in the short term. I already have a diy flip in the mail.

Id swap you my 4.10's for those 4.56's

NO :flipoff10:
