RJFguitar's resto-mod - went offroad

For those that are/were following the " le me see your insides" thread, I think I am going to try out a couple of junk yards and see if I can get lucky and find some really clean interior trim parts. I do know of a Suburban at a yard that has a pretty minty woodgrain interior. Debating if I like the woodgrain as much as the brushed alum parts.

You know, the wood grain might look pretty sweet in there. Ive only seen a few that were wood grain vs millions of the brushed aluminum trim pieces.

Many good air brush artist can do a mean wood grain, would look swwwwwwweeet!

New emblems are a nice touch.

The more I'm thinking about it, the more I'm thinking black interior with the woodgrain trim would look cool and not so common. Especially since I know of a local yard that has a mint gauge bezel and dash trim in woodgrain out of a late burb. It has the goofy door panels with the oversized carpet inserts though, if memory serves. I might have trouble coming up with NOS or mint used woodgrain door trim inserts.

My '06 Dodge Mega Cab also has woodgrain accents. Would be fun to have matching interiors. I do have a brand new brushed aluminum gauge bezel on it's way from Classic Parts, but I could probably return it.

Well, I was getting pretty excited about doing woodgrain instead of brushed aluminum, especially since I knew that a local yard had a mint gauge bezel and dash trim in woodgrain. But..... they sold it since I was there last. So, back to brushed aluminum it is then.

Most of my order from Classic Parts came today. The aftermarket dash is from "Dashes Direct" and so far I am impressed with it. I haven't actually bolted it in, but it does look and feel just like the factory dash.

My new door panels are NOS. I already got started on getting them dyed. I also dyed the carpet insert, which are original from my K5. I did pick up a set of the brushed alum door trim and a couple of the strap covers from a local yard today, but am not positive if I'm going to use them or not. They are pretty darned clean, but there is a couple scratches on them.

Also received my new bezel. It's not NOS and is aftermarket, but it does look pretty good.

Hmm the one I got fron Classic Parts was NOS, but the problem was it has more of a bronze look to it then silver.
Then I found one on here that some was selling, that was the right one.

That one sure look good if it's NOS.

Maybe it is NOS? I got a huge box with mixed items and there was no wrapping for it. I'll check tomorrow on the back for GM numbers. I also noticed more of a bronze tint. I guess if it's a problem I'll deal with that later.:doah:

i thought that the reporduction bezels have gone to the bronze look?

Mine came in a box with GM tag on it. My understanding was the ones with the bronze tint were from later model and are the only ones left from GM.

My question is, is that the one that came in the 90-91 subarbans that had wood grain on the dash and doors. I just don't remeber witch ones had that bezel.

You can see how the tint is different in this picture. This is the one from Classic Parts

Before and after with the chrome side molding...

Been working on it some this morning, got the door weather striping installed and got more inside plastic pieces painted black. Spent half the time screwing with a bad striker.

Looks sweet! I've always liked the way these trucks look in a copper tone... usually you don't see many people pay attention to all the finishing details when rebuilding - Well done!

I can't agree more. With the Chevy trucks just being called "silverado" since like 1988 or something, people forget that back in the 70's and 80's there were lots of different trim options, and you had something nice if you had a truck equipped with the Silverado package. I shake my head when people strip down the outside of a once equipped Silverado, just to repaint it and leave it looking like a custom deluxe base package.
