I get TON's of grief for going thru a breeder and not a rescue..I want a 10 week old, QUALITY pup to raise myself.. not someone else's mistake... I will NOT feel guilty about that...
it won't be cheap.... the dog's run $1000 to $3000.. I'm not looking for show quality... I just want a healthy large dark male... pet quality is fine..
I have pick of the litter so hopefully a good candidate is there... I've kinda set a limit in my mind of 2 g's... I'd rather it be 1200 or 1500, but i'll spend 2 grand if need be...
AMEN!
Adopting a rescue dog is definitely a "feel good" thing...can't argue with giving an abandoned dog a second chance.
But it's really a crapshoot. We adopted a rescue in February who ended up becoming so aggressive that Charlie was afraid of him, and eventually he got bitten pretty badly too... That was that. This time around we went about 180-degrees the other way. AKC Golden Retreiver.... Proven temperament, gentle with kids.... And yes, expensive.
However, the experience of having a dog in our family is going to be about eleventy-billion times more satisfying.-G
