Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

a death squad will be at your door shortly... have a painful death.. thank you for playing.. :waytogo:

don't think any of the "hand of doom" are on duty currently...

Greg you better be working on the rig dammit! when your done, delete that cr@p.....

alright, I'm having a brainfart here... :doah:

I want to eliminate the oil cooler on this rig... 1989 454 I have this adapter that I'm sure most are familiar with, held up with 2 allen bolts..

now I have an adapter that would bolt in there from my K5 to remote mount the filter... and actually have a cheapie remote mount.. I just don't want to be bothered making up some pushlock hoses/fittings, yada for a mill that's gonna go 6BT anyway........

I just wanna eliminate that one and run a filter in the block...

I think I just need one of these

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ses-3-60-08-900/overview/year/1989/make/chevrolet/model/v3500

and the filter gasket will just seal on the recessed block surface that the current adapter sits on... and than it would just take a standard cheby filter like a wix 1515 or napa gold 51515

but that search is for an 89 454, yet in the description it says those only fit up till 1986?

wtf?

actually it would be another napa 1060, as those are 13/16-16 thread like that adapter.. whereas 1515's, etc take a 3/4 thread.. or if I wanna go big capacity, I could get the 2 qrt version, napa gold 1794

I get TON's of grief for going thru a breeder and not a rescue.. I want a 10 week old, QUALITY pup to raise myself.. not someone else's mistake... I will NOT feel guilty about that...

after talking to Kathy, I know, she's all about the healthiest best dogs possible... every health test, precaution is taken, etc.. rescue dog's, not so much... I got her name thru the Westminster dog show.. the parents are both grand champions..

it won't be cheap.... the dog's run $1000 to $3000.. I'm not looking for show quality... I just want a healthy large dark male... pet quality is fine..

I have pick of the litter so hopefully a good candidate is there... I've kinda set a limit in my mind of 2 g's... I'd rather it be 1200 or 1500, but i'll spend 2 grand if need be...

and I wont bat an eye at that.. I spent 1300 on tool drawers.. 5 g's on materials for a tubebed.. :dunno: :screwy: this will be my best friend/companion for the next dozen yr's or so, seems silly to not make the best investment I can...
I will be doing the same.
I have always owned German shepherds.
I will be trying to find a breeder here but I might talk to you about the one you are dealing with.
Looking at maybe next year.
No offense to anyone that owns or likes rescue dogs but I see the value in having a purebred shepherd.

You are on the right track, get that adapter and the appropriate filter.

I had the same issue with my '91. Oil cooler went out on the turnpike, didn't catch it in time. Hello new crate K code. Boooo.
Spin on adapter, bypass the problem.

PM me anytime.. I'll be fully updating the thread on this as it progresses.. afterall, the rig is being built for the pooch... hopefully I'll be getting an e-mail in a few weeks to a month that pups are on the way...

thanks mang.... my biggest concern was whether the filter threads would be sticking down far enough for the filter to engage... gonna order it this week... think I'll go right for the 2 qrt 1794 filter too... next weekend project...

nice to have good solid poly motor mounts in Mutt now... much more solid on launches....

spent today doing small stuff on the 2wd rig and some on Mutt.. finally put in axle vents.. trying to chase down some oil leaks, so I thoroughly degreased everything so I can find em when I get to the marina in the morn...

yeah, the one original hose is starting to weep a bit I think and they are horrible looking... might as well get it out of there now, make some room.. ditch the cooler.. help clean the front up some in prep for the new bumper skid, yada....

yay for ordering tube this week! :woot: but not sure when I'll see it tho.. but if I'm around the house next weekend, think I'll pull the bumper for the weekend and start mocking stuff up..

also looking to buy myself 4 more Baja's this week... but man, kinda wishing I went with Goodyears.. they are still all over the place, eghey and such.. not a single listing from Berg or Feltz on there for Baja's.... I'll call both this week and see if they have any 90%er's... looking to get 4... I'm thinking I'll have a better chance of Feltz having them...

this will pretty much be the last BIG parts buying weekend for awhile for Mutt... probably till spring......

need to start saving for the pooch, and coughwintertimeK5toyscough.....

I just had new hoses made for crew cabs oil cooler last month cost @ 120. Turns out I didnt need them the power steering cooler was leaking right above it and wetting the oil cooler lines! :doah:

yeah, I am VERY suspect of that going on here too... I have added a tad here and there..

that's why I spent SO much time today getting EVERYTHING as clean as possible so I can figure out exactly where my leaks are over the next couple days.....

but I planned on getting rid of it anyway, so may as well do it now..

thanks..

it looks like one comes with the gasket, no bolts.. and the cheaper summit comes with bolts and no gasket... 6 one way, 1/2 doz the other.. :haha:

i'll order the cheaper summit tonight.. I have gasket paper at the house here if needed....

hopefully i'll get it for the weekend...

tube and tire order today! :woot:

just dropped another $1400 or so on Mutt today...

4 95% Baja's showing up early next week... $692

that makes 11 to put in rotation on Mutt.. :eek1: should last me awhile... ;)

2 sticks 1.5" DOM & 1 stick of 2" DOM $362

2 5lb Purple K extinguishers.. $120

oil adapter, shop supplies, etc yada, yawn...

oh, the tube will be here Friday.... so you can guess what I'll be doing this weekend.... :grind::weld::saweet:
