that's no good.. I would just leave the current lights if that where the case.. the angle tube, like the bottom K5 pic, goes directly across the middle of that outer side... thus why I'm doing custom turn signals towards the middle...

the LED pod driving lights will go just inboard of the uprights.. on either side of a centered license plate...
 
I'm thinking a set of these in 60w between the uprights...

those are also the ones I'm gonna run in the back as worklights. but those will be diffused lens floods, the fronts will obviously be spots...
 
well, it was Kert's decision originally... the lure of 95% tires for $125 to 150 a piece is VERY appealing.. I've got like $1500 in 11 tires that where practically new...

I just need to buy a lifetime's worth in the next couple yr's before there all gone.... :doah: :haha:
 
Ahhh. Good in theory. Long as they don't dry rot. I'm not a big fan of old old rubber at highway speeds. Even if it "looks" in good shape. Especially if you're loading the truck up. I don't recall your plans for towing and running loaded and what not.
 
not worried about dry rot.. he's been selling me the freshest ones he has.. they've been really clean..... and all "extras" I have are kept in the parts room in the house...

I am running D range with this batch, as it'll be awhile before I do any towing of anything significant... it'll have the 6BT before than, so that's away's off.. prolly 5 yr's at least... I'll more than likely be into MTR's or something else at that point and I'll up the range to an E...
 
IMO you should keep the factory grill and lights. That's the best damn front clip gm put out in those 10 years(81-91) and your going to hack it up.:dunno:
I am sure your mods will be nice and all, but it just wouldn't be the same.
 
sigh, yeah, I'm gonna hack it up........ :rolleyes:

it's just the lower parking/turn lights.. they look pretty stoopid IMO to begin with, not to mention mine are all oxidized.... the headlights and grill will remain the same...
 
Actually if your going to do that you should get three smaller ones and put them in line and make them sequential like the rear. Three hits on the front and then the side maker the fourth hit, if you get what I mean...
 
I don't think that would fit... that angled tube eats up a lot of visual space...

I already had to raise the 2 uprights in the design a bit to the last "slat" at the top of the grill, so the side angle ones will come in at a good, proportional, spot on em... like they do on the stinger of the K5..

I'm pretty confident in my plan.... I think the bumper and LED turn's are just going to enhance an already cool grill...
 
dang, them XML's are $375 a piece for 95% er's... :eek1: I'm betting that's a nice tire tho....

How old of tires are we talking about? 5 yrs, 15 yrs, 25 yrs?
Old rubber can easily become brittle. And a perfect-looking brittle tire breaks down and cracks pretty quickly.

I have learned the hard way (several times) what happens when cracking sets in. Things go blooey on the highway. :doah::eek1::(

Given my newly found appreciation for uncracked tires, the amount of time that I'm willing to use an old, brittle tire is much shorter than it used to be. So I'm much less enthusiastic about used rubber than I used to be.

I wish you luck in your old-tire endeavors. Definitely keep them out of the sunlight, but I think you already knew that. :dunno:
 
the tires are 6 yr's old.... I'm not worried, but apparently the intraweb is....

Fazio list for the week... hopefully I get some rain one day and can blow out of work early...

10' of 3/8" x 9" flat bar

5' of 3/16" x 12" flat bar

10' of 1/4" x 2" flat bar


so tomorrow is kinda open at this point since I don't have the steel for the uprights... the beginning of the bumper..

I think I'll close up/patch the bottom of the fenders from the fang chop.. kinda minor dainty work, but might as well get it done..



maybe I'll go smack the ball around in the afternoon.. :popcorn:
 
I wanna say the LAAV-25's have 9" or so wide wheels.

Be aware these suckers are heavy.
