Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

If you are gonna bump up consider a dual disc.
Dual disc with new hydros give a basically stock feel and clutch pedal effort while holding the power.
They are more but supposed to be much better to live with. I never had a problem with single disc and it dynod at 435hp on 35s with the stock turbo.
But it also only towed a car trailer on occasion. Towing heavy or delicate backing up probably wouldn’t have been the most fun.

I would get a built trans already done. You want this to go under 6 months. Building a trans is just going to drain you for time. It's just nice to have warranty on a part like that.
Advance adapters has the best deal on the bellhousing kit. Its OEM replacement. I bet @swettysblazer can get you that for a good price.
If you use a Chevy 32 spline output shaft, use a Chevy tcase adapter. If you go 29 spline, you'll use the dodge adapter. Chevy bolts and fits better.

Do not use southbend hydraulics with Chevy pedals. I suggest avoid parts confusion and get crewcab59s kit. It already figured out.

Your low mile auto trans is honestly likely at the end of its lifespan. It is not worth much.

Save the second gen radiator, shroud, intercooler and piping. I am choosing to adapt that to my core support so the coolant hoses and fan depth and reservoirs appear well thought out and off the fenderwells. My preference.
Crewcab59 has a recipe to use a small block radiator.

And by the way, it's been your month for a couple months now.

awesome info, thanks! is there a page for crewcab59.... i remember that name now from that other thread i started about this in the Garage...

good stuff, thanks...... i do need to keep in mind, that eventually this rig will be hauling around pretty big boats.. albeit, pretty flatland....

it's a daunting project in its entirety, but if I break the info/purchases down, I'll just plod thru it all... lot to learn.....

i have 18 months to get everything together....

lol, I'm actually already looking at various engine stand designs for me to burn together... ;)

Cc59 doesn't really hang on the boards but is good at phone calls. Google Tennessee diesel conversions.

I have 400hp and 850 ft/lb on my 3rd gen single disc southbend at over 10k pounds with no slip. Essentially the same clutch.
Dual disc is overboard and they make all kinds of racket.

what was I reading at one point about a difference in the shifters between the dodge and GM? one was preferable over the other....

I think what I'm looking for right now, is a good builder, who does custom builds...

so far from a cursory look around, I like these guys..... https://high-impact.net/nv4500/

I'm afraid...... ;)

mill - $3000

KDP kit - $120 BD dizzle. (Why not free? You're ryoken for shits sake)

gaskets, belts, paint, etc - ? $200
(I suggest a Mahle brand full gasket kit. Genuine Cummins without the stamp or price. Alternator, water pump, lift pump, ps pump and hydroboost hoses probably way more when you use "etc")

motor mounts - ( second gen almost never go bad. Just get new OEM rubber for the 96) ?

x-member - ? $400 rob bonney (certainly a good choice)

bellhousing, fork, etc - ? $ 400
(That's the AA kit)

slave cylinder - $ 400 tennessee diesel

NV4500 - $ 2500
(Allstate gear built mine locally. Way less than that. )

clutch - $ 750

trans mount - (OEM 89)

driveline brake/flange - $ 500

205 rails, shifter, kit and shaft - $700
(Call Chris? At ord. There is a Cummins specific twin stick kit with exhaust clearance.)

shaft work -

fuel pump, lines - $500 - 1000
(Stock lift pump works great, no reason to complicate it. New hard line down the driver frame rail though. $50)

fuel tank - $ 1500

leaf springs - $ 1000
(Might just need a zero rate)

exhaust stuff - (first gen 93 dodge 4" kit if you plan to use the stock hx35 from the donor. Good bend at the firewall and does well with the 205. Suggested 1" body lift just cause it is tight. ?

I'm afraid...... ;)

I agree with why the shitingiggle would you pay $120 for a piece of flat stock with a hole in it. Ryoken it out of some scrap and put that to Bette uses

it comes with the gasket, seal and tool too... i'll need springs, i run a zero rate already.....

You shouldn't pay much more than $1500 for a reman NV4500 including core unless you're upgrading the main shaft and going with cryo gears. Then at that price point you're into G56 territory. Which is a much better trans anyway.

everything I've been seeing is around $1500 without the core... this is the upgraded main shaft..... not the billet input tho.... https://high-impact.net/nv4500/

either way i look at it, the project as a whole is gonna be in the 10 g range... actually more...

I'm looking at a couple g's thru ORD with springs.. tho, i will wait till the swap is done to do the springs... but it will be SHORTLY after i have full weight up front.... I want 8" with it drilled up 1.5".... gonna go up an inch...

3 for the rig.. the tank, with filter setup, plumbed to the mill is gonna be 2 g's i bet.... gonna at least get a firm tank price as soon as the bed is back together and i can stop in there... it's conceivable they could hook me up for under a grand, but i doubt it..... maybe they'll sponsor me.. ;)

it's got me pounding the rig tho.... just about all the sanding is done.. just have the tubegate and light panels to do at some point... gonna start coating tonight... fab today tho......

what's an economical machine/way to get the weight of the rig at each corner?

soooo...... I said I would post pics.. I am workin.. ;)

I've got belly #1 fitted and tabs ready.... no gas for miggy.... next weekend... I'll bang that out, and start getting the panel sanded and ready for coating... I also want to get the 4 tabs that are missing on the taillight panels in... @runamok151 ;)

my life, dealing with hand smudge madness....

anyway, need to bring home denatured alcohol tomorrow to do a final wipe down for coating.. cloth baby diapers for coating...

first batch, of many....

sept 1... that's my mental day.... ;) I want the bed fresh paint, drawers in, ready for shadow foam.... panels tits...

no work lights yet for the bed.. the minute the 6BT came into play, all extra-curricular spending stops...

i did splurge last weekend on a pod for under the spare.. to get a better feel for the size i want up at each end of the C-hoop... it's an amber/clear one....

gonna work on "acquiring" a sweet marine filter setup for the system this week...

oh...... the point of the smudge madness comment... I swear, I'm gonna pull in every metal coating/powder coating place parking lot within 100 miles after this insanity bout, and challenge them to provide a KILLA clear powder, anodize, etc that will make the panels the best they could be.. just mechanically getting them perfect is nearly impossible... another 500 hr's with giant scuffpad paddle/machines....

or a street sweeper! ;)

MAKE THEM STAY THAT WAY FOREVA!! :pimp:

aaaaaaaaand the reason I want the bed set back up in a reasonable time is I'm really intent on making this a mobile toolbox by the end of the summer.. a "base of operations" we'll call it.... ;) the marina is driving me nuts with my wannabe-OCD organization.......

I just figured out what I need for this project....

a 36" throated, metal planer, but instead of a cutting head, it should be a giant scuff wheel...... i could just set tension and keep feeding a piece thru until desirable finish... even from one side to the other, yada..

where's @Fordum when I need em... ;)

considering running all my exposed alum panels to a 400 wet blocking.... just wanna make sure I get the right burnished look...... I have a problem..... :dunno:

oh, and.............

deposits have been made....

soon to be flying the Cummins flag next to the red/white/blue out back... flagwaver
